Standing at city hall, there's maybe 6 or 7, or even more cafes within a 5 minute walking distance. La Central Bakery just opened last month, Fuel America, Theatre cafe, Fortissimo, Brew On The Grid, Dunkin's if you wanna count that. It does get busy downtown and but I'm not sure if adding another cafe over there would be good for business.... but I also have never owned a business, so I could be wrong

This is yet another reason why a strong mayor system is a better form of government for a city the size of Worcester. The electorate should get the deciding vote on who runs the city, not the city council. Sure, at the end of their terms we can vote them out for not even trying, but it doesn’t revolve the fact that the city manager is untouchable via public mandate.

And Batista may very well be the best person for the job, but he also might not be.

Great questions, no idea if these recently vacant commercial spaces already have new tenants lined up. I’m assuming the article might have shed some light on that but not able to read it. The title certainly alluded to it.

Drastic increases in residential prices has definitely negatively impacted business imp, just not enough money to go spend on a night out after paying all these bills. I think Worcester was betting on people that moved here from Boston/surrounding areas spending their money here and I’m not sure that’s happening.

Nope, I'd prefer we spend the time and effort to find the best qualified candidate for the position. Not running a search gets us folks like Joe Petty, Maureen Binienda and Steve Sargent. The school folks figured it out and ran a search that got us Dr Monarrez, who seems to be doing quite well in her first few months.

Not sure why you think it's racist to want to know we got the best person?

It takes so much time and money to put on a race like a half. I think if the profit margins were there we would see it come back. 5Ks are so much easier because it’s a lower barrier to entry (bigger pool of runners to pull from) and cheaper (less $$ spent on road closures and police details).
