Westport and Grayland are nice too for privacy, more locals while Ocean Shores is more tourist-y. If you do get to Ocean Shores though make sure you check out Damon Point and the Interpretive Center there.

Thats good to know they actually made some progress. For a year I commuted to Federal Way for work and 3 of my shifts had me leaving FW towards Olympia at 4PM lol. I just started going to Emerald Queen for a beer until 6 since I wasn't gonna get home until 7 either way

Yeah I'm not really even advocating for either side here (love historic preservation but believe in density/redevelopment) but jesus christ half of these comments didn't even click the article, just drank the koolaid based off of the article name

Since it sounds like you’re not here for very long (just overnight?) it doesn’t sound like you’ll have time to make it out to the actual coast, which is about a 3-4hr drive depending on where you want to go. If you just have a single evening and want to get to a beach, head to Alki, Golden Gardens, or Seahurst.

You can drop the “state” qualifier when speaking to people from the PNW.
There is one Washington, and there is a D.C.
Also if you’re here for only one day, it’s unlikely you’ll have time to go the ocean proper, unless that’s all your doing that day.

Ruby beach is spectacular! It’s a bit of a long drive but the drive is beautiful too, so worth it if you have the time.

You might look at Point Defiance zoo and aquarium https://www.pdza.org or you might take a drive up the Olympic peninsula. Not sure without knowing specifics. There's a lot to see in the state.

If you want some privacy I'd avoid going to Ocean Shores. If you travel north a ways just past Humptulips you can find some nice spots open to the public that are relatively unused at this time of year. Be sure to bring some kites along, nothing better than than flying a kite as you stroll along the beach.

A reasonable take from a reasonable person who actually read the article.

That date is wrong. Approximately half of all build dates are incorrect in tax assessors records. You could have easily proven this wrong with a quick look at historic aerial photos.
It is special from both a historical and architectural perspective.
The amount of misinformation and just lack of reading the article here in pathetic.

Thanks for the explanation this makes a lot of sense why it's always in that stretch you just mentioned too

Drive to Hoquiam, turn north, and drive up the part of the coast that's in the National Park.

I wanna say in the past 2 years they have done massive upgrades to the north/east end of that through Lakewood/Dupont connecting the Tacoma construction are. Either from exit 118/119 to 125-128.
The lacey to DuPont could use some work. Like Marysville it sucks there's no light rail plans to Olympia
Also I have been lucky, I have never been through there between 3-6pm as if I am getting stuck in traffic when I havs to travel during rush hour, I'm either there by 7pm, or I don't hit any snags until Tacoma going either way.
Also having a Friday through Sunday/Monday work schedule means I'm traveling either in the middle of the week or late in the evening.

Seattle Central College is located smack dab in the middle of Seattle with great transport options a block or less from the main campus building. All but one of the faculty i had classes with were great! There’s a transfer fair every quarter with schools from across the country and of course the state. Highly recommend if you’re in the Seattle area.
