Ah, fair point. Probably why I wasn’t able to find anything conclusive. Was just curious if historically that area was just as susceptible to snowfall as the more snowy Washington regions/had a different climate.

And yeah, I have no idea if that’s at all a proper way to refer to them. I think I just clung onto the part of the name that stuck with me haha.

Weird I know we have them, I have been there many times, I have just never heard them called the Scablands before.

You won’t know the snow until your go. Storms can happen anytime during this time period.

I wouldn’t consider the Palouse scablands I would say the area more west and north of there

A lot of people have given great suggestions for community colleges.

One additional suggestion is to figure out which 4-year universities you’re interested in. A lot of communities college partner with in-state universities and have college admissions people on site as well as satellite campuses. They can help you figure out scholarships and tuition as well.

Not so much on the loggers deciding, it was mostly the federal government. I'm not sure about the coast range, but most of that land in the "cascades" photos are US Forest Service property. They stopped logging those areas in the 80's to protect habitat, mostly for the spotted owls.

Any of them will work with you to help build a transcript that should transfer fairly easily to any Washington state 4-year too, if that is your plan. Having your AAS to transfer is pretty straight across if you don't have a lot of off the main track credits.

If you make 70K, you probably take home $4400. What are you comfortable paying per month? Personally, I’d go no higher than 40% of gross monthly which would be $1800. You can afford a 400K home with an $1800/mo mortgage with an 170K downpayment. That buys a decent home where I live in rural Western Washington. Or wait for the fall of capitalism and parasitic commodification of housing!
