Ah, fair point. Probably why I wasn’t able to find anything conclusive. Was just curious if historically that area was just as susceptible to snowfall as the more snowy Washington regions/had a different climate.
And yeah, I have no idea if that’s at all a proper way to refer to them. I think I just clung onto the part of the name that stuck with me haha.

Weird I know we have them, I have been there many times, I have just never heard them called the Scablands before.
You won’t know the snow until your go. Storms can happen anytime during this time period.
I wouldn’t consider the Palouse scablands I would say the area more west and north of there

Yes, the private and DNR lands are still heavily cut over.

As someone who lives in Centralia, works in Chehalis and has to deal with I5 being two lanes at supposedly 60mph twice a day, all I can say is people need to chill the frick out.

I'm looking to move to Lacey and just drove through the area this weekend for the first time.
I didn't notice any traffic around JBLM but understand it's a prominent spot in the area - any advice?
Is it just busy during busy hours, or all the time?

A lot of people have given great suggestions for community colleges.
One additional suggestion is to figure out which 4-year universities you’re interested in. A lot of communities college partner with in-state universities and have college admissions people on site as well as satellite campuses. They can help you figure out scholarships and tuition as well.

Thank you. I was concerned if people stop and lend a hand because I’m wary of stopping for strangers myself. Wouldn’t blame them if they didn’t but don’t know how common that is out there. Definitely will look into quik clot

Reply to To afraid to ask: would a $170k down payment be able to afford me a house in Western Washington? by PopNo5397
What's your monthly mortgage payment max? There are plenty of 500K homes in W. Washington, but a 330K loan at today's interest rates is going to leave you with a chunky monthly payment.

Not so much on the loggers deciding, it was mostly the federal government. I'm not sure about the coast range, but most of that land in the "cascades" photos are US Forest Service property. They stopped logging those areas in the 80's to protect habitat, mostly for the spotted owls.

Any of them will work with you to help build a transcript that should transfer fairly easily to any Washington state 4-year too, if that is your plan. Having your AAS to transfer is pretty straight across if you don't have a lot of off the main track credits.

I live off exit 9 and thought surely they’re not talking about whipple creek? I guess so. It sure is a beautiful slice of nature. Too many horse poops though.

I live off exit 9, and I have no idea what you’re talking about. Can I have a hint?
edit I now see it’s Whipple Creek, but I don’t really consider it a park, so I wasn’t sure. It really is a beautiful slice of nature. There’s also a playground park: Fairgrounds.

If you make 70K, you probably take home $4400. What are you comfortable paying per month? Personally, I’d go no higher than 40% of gross monthly which would be $1800. You can afford a 400K home with an $1800/mo mortgage with an 170K downpayment. That buys a decent home where I live in rural Western Washington. Or wait for the fall of capitalism and parasitic commodification of housing!

Our tax dollars at work, bringing on the potholes so when we get our vehicles fixed, they can take out more taxes from that 🙄

It's $800 a night now. It does include breakfast, lunch, and evening dessert. Plus all the spa time you can get.

What did you want to do there? That will probably help you focus on an area.
