Location is super important here.
Isn't $62k below the threshold for affordable housing in Seattle? $62k in Vancouver OTOH wouldn't be extravagant, but you would be able to get by & still save.

Thank you! We're planning on returning in 3 years time but I'm excited for this new adventure, not as excited about hauling 40 chickens across the country but they're family

You have some really spectacular pics on your profile. I saw that you’ll be of to CT with Bok Obama and his cabinet… good luck!

The entire larger metro area has a homelessness issue that is very visible. There are awful incidents of unprovoked attacks by the mentally Ill on random people, but by far the most likely thing that will happen to you is a car break in. Of course this depends on your situation and your car. Getting a secured garage can be very important. Car theft is also possible if you have certain types of Kia or Hyundai cars in particular.
On a personal level I wouldn’t say I am any more or less stressed or at an alert here than any other large city. Just taking reasonable precautions as anyone would do.

I’m from coastal WA, so it’s not a shift, it’s a potential return to form. This is a comfort decision for quality of life, not a culture move

Stay, but move east of Greensboro.
Better food and you do have tech there.
Seattle will be a huge shift for you. I did it, but it came at a cost.

If I’m reading that article correctly and the current weather forecasts are accurate then there shouldn’t be major impacts to your drive. Maybe a 1-3” a day at top of the pass this weekend and some wind/rain on the rest of your drive, but nothing that would make me think you’d need to make alternate plans.
