In the real world we all have to make due with less, up our profit, work harder and do whatever to increase value. And steal market share.
Any fed, state or local govt job just sucks off the teat of the people, there is always more and never any accountability.
Nothing against science in general. But the cost of college skyrockets while most Univ continue to fund pointless research, overstaff, salaries shoot up they waste money than just charge students more.
It doesn't have to be that way.

Awesome, another technology that we’ll continue to not use so the wealthy can continue making money off of archaic fossil fuels we never needed to burn in the first place.

I like your line of thought. Maybe we could work together to create new stories and plot lines and words. We could use AI technologies to create illustrated books and even movies. Renegade storytelling. Words do have power. I wonder what type of words we would need to break the current spell the world is under.

This isn’t a smartass question, but if a guy wanted to play softball could he play for the women’s teams?

Dunno what the repeat offender (?) rate is over there but in scandinavia its about 30%. Not sure it that is good or bad tho.

The two sports are comparable by the eye test but otherwise the different dynamics of the ball make it wildly different.
Pro baseball players would struggle more against a softball pitch because they don’t train for that. Same the other way around. Doing something you’re not used to inherently means you’re not going to be as good as something you train for. It doesn’t necessarily correlate with difficulty or skill levels.

Baseball doesn’t sub as many people in, as a rule.
Imagine they had subbed her in when up so much, would it then be viewed as a stunt because she’d have no real impact on the game?
Equity only works in some situations, she’s playing for equality and equality looks like riding the bench for a lot of the players. Good enough to sit on the bench but maybe not good enough for this game right here right now in this moment.
Even if it is virtue signaling … sometimes that’s necessary just to get the narrative moving.

How do you define effectiveness? All that matters is power density (which includes efficiency ) + cost. If an energy production method provides 0.1% of the power density of solar for instance, why would you waste land to build it, or even use it in stead of other types of land use with higher economic output ? Land use is a major ecological issue and low power density energy generation (like biofuel) has massive negative externalities

Any time a federal agency starts to receive an avalanche of funding, my first thought is that it's starting to get tied into "defense" spending (ie, militarized). The very first point they make is about information technology being 'critical', which I take to mean that the NSF is becoming the R&D department in the cyber war with China, Russia, etc.
Someone please help a jaded elder millennial to see this as anything other than a cynical ploy to leverage resources in an ongoing political/economic/technological conflict.
