La Niña is simply the cold phase of the El Niño Southern Oscillation (ENSO). This is a great website showing the different phases and their intensities over time.

We do realize that. It's one of the reasons we don't live in Florida.

Do you mean dampen in the sense that it reduces the effects of El Nino, or makes El Nino wetter?

Because if landlords weren't snapping up hundreds of properties each owning a home would be cheaper than renting is now even if you account for incidentals like fixing fridges and roofs

People often confuse capitalism and mercantilism which is honestly fair, the lines are kinda blurry. It doesn't help that anything left of hunting the homeless down for food is branded as communism wiping out all of the systems in between

Reply to comment by Supertho in Biden administration releases Guantánamo inmate, its fourth transfer in a month by LifeTableWithChairs
Guantanamo needs to be emptied out. That prison is hypocritical to US values & and a total waste of money- how many prisoners are left there? 20 something? A whole overseas military prison complex for 20-30 aging afghan/Pakistani/Arab prisoners who’ve been in solitary for 20 years.
There are plenty of other military prisons, they’re just inconveniently located in countries. Lawyer up and deal with it. That’s my rant. Close gitmo.

Yeah the worry about this was that it was not going to end. Now that it has, we know the cycle will keep going.

You ever play monopoly? You ever play monopoly where one player starts out owning 3/4 of the board? Kinda hard to win in that game isn't it?

It appears several commenters are missing the point. I'm not downplaying human impact but we didn't kill La Nina with climate change; it's cyclical. La Nina ending is natural. In fact, it seemed the last La Nina hung around for longer than it typically does. Australia was expecting another La Nina season so they also get a bit of a reprieve.

People did own things before capitalism came around. Hell, I would even go as far as to say that the entire concept of owning things created by other people massively predates capitalism too. Shit, its almost like your argument that "only capitalism lets non-contributors own the contributions of others" is completely wrong.
