It's also insanely expensive to have owners sue you after you killed the animal you left in their care. We had a fire about a year ago in Georgetown, TX. 75 dogs died. The owners are suing. There wasn't a fire suppression system and no one on 24/7 watching the dogs. They claimed to have cameras. If they did, it didn't save the dogs.

Years ago, my vet wanted our dog to arrive the night before a surgery. When I asked if someone stayed with the animals, I was told no. I made a deal with them to arrive early that day. I couldn't live with myself if something happened.

Would agree if it were like other posts here where the context of bad news is new too, so the overall message of the article is tragic.

But in this case the whole world is already aware of the massive tragedy in Turkey and Syria. That’s presumed context, not what this article is adding to most people, just the rescue of the dog. Which is uplifting.

Yeah I guess orphancrushingmachine is more about how people celebrate fixing systemic problems with short term or case-specific solutions instead of fixing the system itself, which isn’t quite this.

It still feels similar because while they are decriminalizing it, they aren’t really fixing the system of oppression because it’s still illegal.
