I tend to be on WPRI, though WJAR on the weekends is fine. ABC6 is an absolute dumpster fire of a station.

I find NBC 10 is the best. Their website is miles better than Channel 12’s, and they do a better job of covering what I’m interested in. I never really thought PBS did local news. And I don’t think many people watch ABC, it always seems like 10 and 12 are the big 2.

Bowery appears to be involved with Fete. It's listed under "Our Venues" on the Bowery website

I should probably also note some bands may have radius clauses and no competes if they play Boston which is why they'd skip PVD on a tour or 2.

Advertisement for shows are kind of non-existent.
Different target demographic that spends less on alcohol and alcohol sales are basically how clubs and venues are staying alive.
Live music is less lucrative for the artists than it used to be. Many artists in many genres are doing some pop up shows but less "quality" acts are actively doing gigs.
Lower tier market, especially with Boston nearby.

Reply to Why does Rhode Island College have such a negative reputation? Is it that bad? by PinkSwallowLove
I got a BA and MA in history and taught at RIC. I'm very happy with my experiences there and feel like I was prepared well for my career. Much of my grad school cohort came from different schools and they generally seemed to agree that my undergrad courses better prepared me for grad school than theirs. College is definitely what you make of it, but I felt like I mostly had smart, passionate professors that cared for their students.

I would assume it's more ownership. Same with Fete. If these venues sit outside the livenation system, they're going to get skipped. You also have to take into account the amount of venues in Boston have increased dramatically. To my understanding AEG and other promoters like Bowery Presents don't have agreements in Providence.
And we're also kind of a smaller market. Like a C/D level market.

While I like jam bands, they draw an older demographic that doesn’t drink like younger crowds ( read: hip hop) … and that’s where clubs make money. Pretty simple.

100% agree. They went downhill big time.

Never going to find a house that big. As others have mentioned just get hotel rooms and plan to go out to dinner if you can find a place open.

Bryant (University) is a C list drinking school with a business problem. They charge way too much. URI and RIC are better values. I did graduate from there Summa Cum Laude in 1993, but went to the cheaper night classes for most of it.

Reply to Does anyone live in the later cotton mill? If so, how much are paying for rent and we're you able to negotiate? by [deleted]
Don’t move to a mill building. They tend to have rats, as there are lots of small gaps and you are on the river. Some of those rats have ancestors who were there for the start of the Industrial Revolution. Rats carry everything but tiny AmEx cards, and they are hard to eradicate.

There's a string of rental properties down on lower thames by the gas station maybe check there. Idk how large they are but they've got multiple full houses so maybe you'll get lucky. Besides that I'd say maybe the hotels in the area like the viking or the one above surf club or the new one that popped up at hammets wharf and just try to get a block deal, a lot of them do it for wedding parties so I'm sure they could do the same for this, plus Thanksgiving tends to be on the slower side for newport because it's more a family kind of thing over traveling so you might get lucky

Reply to comment by OrdovicianOccultist in Why are all of the mail boxes welded shut? by canalguyopen
The phishing happened frequently enough on a box on Promenade Street they removed the box altogether. Its was next to a State Office (DEM) and over a 6 month period I knew of 12 people who put mail in that box that was never delivered. 3 had identities stolen, not sure if its related or not. It seems crazy to me, but I guess people are still mailing cash or paperwork that has sensitive info that assholes will steal

Where are you in RI? I’ve heard a lot of good things about the place in Peacedale by the rotary in South Kingstown. Im not sure the name of it but they offer different options

Not sure exactly how many bedrooms they have combined but the Fastnet pub on Broadway owns three airbnbs all in the building I think. I looked into them for a bachelor party and the two I looked at had about 5 bedrooms each so it might be worth a google search to see if it meets your needs.

At least 16 bedrooms thanksgiving rental oh my God 😂
Honestly your best bet is to call like hotel Viking and see if they can get you a bunch of hotel rooms and maybe they’ll let you rent like one of the convention rooms for a big private thanksgiving dinner. Hell they may even cater it. If you book early enough they may be able to get you an entire wing to yourself or something.
Other option is, if your budget is massive (which looking for a 16 bedroom estate in Newport I have to assume it is), contact a Lila delman agent. They may have an Uber high net worth client that will let you rent their gilded age mansion for some obscene amount of money. Or they may be able to put you in touch with someone from the Newport preservation society and you could stay in like rosewood for an obscene amount of money (not sure if that’s allowed or not though - I know they rent it out for weddings I’m not sure they’d bite on an overnight)
Good luck! Also please update us on what you do because I’m super curious
