They are both the 2 kindest people I know, my dad is always cracking jokes that will make everyone in the family laugh and my mom is pure chaos (in the best way possible :D) and will always help everyone with everything if there is even a broad assumption she can - Me and my wife live super close so we still see each other daily for dinner, I’ve never seen these 2 not laugh and joke around with each other constantly! But no, my dad is also the toughest guy I know, I don’t think I’ve ever seen him tear up unless it’s from laughing too much :D And he is also the logical, while my mom is again.. pure chaos!

You're talking about the timeframe between November 9, 1989 and October 3, 1990, during which the GDR was unravelling itself very quickly. But before that, there was pretty much no chance for regular East Germans to vacation in the Netherlands.
