Sounds like they've added some subtle effects to it, a bit of echo, maybe some vibrato and tremolo or something. You can create very alien-sounding sounds with guitar effects. :)

I would show him
Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention Parliament Funkadelic Steely Dan The Residents Phish The Beatles Hank Williams Pink Floyd Primus Talking Heads The Beach Boys The Doors CSNY Louis Armstrong George Gershwin Wilco
If he doesn’t like any of that I’m gonna tell Amadeus to get the hell out

Cobra Man - Bad Feeling, Bru-C - hideout, Park Hye Jin - Like This, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs - Tapes & Money, Dawn Rell - On A Wave, Blood Sucking Zombies from Outerspace - Dr.Freudstein, The Hillbilly Moon Explosion - My love for evermore, The Clash - Rock The Casbah (Ranking Roger). Last one is a really different and good cover that the clash actually chose to host on their Spotify. Hope something lands! It’s a bunch of different genres.

That's wild, I can't imagine there's too much audience overlap between CoF and Ed Sheeran's demographics. I'm not going to hold my breath in anticipation of it being good, but I absolutely need to listen to it out of morbid curiosity.

For Whom the Bell Tolls by Metallica - It plays during the opening credits of Zombieland and there is all this carnage going on in slow motion.

I'll take you on your word for "any genre":
- Elyvilon - A Hunger to Carry Off Flocks (Finnish folk/dungeon synth - best to listen to the album in full, but this song is really cool, and look at that incredible album art!)
- Black Wing - Twinkling (post-punk/post-rock)
- Autumn's Grey Solace - Forgotten, Fossilized, Archaic (dreampop/ethereal wave)
- Clouds - If These Walls Could Speak (atmospheric doom metal)
- Holy Fawn - Death Is A Relief (heavy, atmospheric shoegaze)
- Hedy West - Little Sadie (Appalachian traditional murder ballad)
- Esben and the Witch - No Dog (dark unconventional rock from a post-rock band)
- Sylvaine - Nowhere, Still Somewhere (blackgaze)
- Show Me a Dinosaur - Sunflower (blackgaze/post-rock)
- Heretoir - Golden Dust (blackgaze, but very warm-toned - the song itself sounds golden)

Ah. As an aside, it got me looking up past MTV names, including Kurt Loder, which brought up a mock MTV News piece of him covering the then-missing Yellowjackets.

The majority of the bands featured on this list are underground and underrated. List is manually sorted

I know these aren't very contemporary, but I'd suggest one of the early Shakira songs, like Ciega, Sordomuda or Pies Descalzos
