Astronautalis - Skeleton (everyone’s favorite)

It’s from his album The Mighty Ocean and the Nine Dark Theaters which might have better examples.

The song takes place on a beach, and the chorus features imagery of a young couple jumping off a bridge. The song itself mirrors TS Elliot’s The Waste Land in a way, I think. With its focus on age and beauty. Getting old is the theme.

Frightened Rabbit - Swim Until You Can’t See Land

This uses the ocean as sort of a metaphor. Staying on land is too difficult, so the singer starts to swim. Partially provoked by an unnamed woman, and partially by his desire to escape his past. Drowning in the ocean would be preferable to staying on land.

😂 Mazzy Star - Fade Into You came on and my gf said she something about not liking sad songs, I get that it might sound a little melancholic, but the lyrics are probably more positive and loving, or at least a mix between melancholic and loving. Then you got songs like Semi-Charmed Life by Third Eye Blind and Today by Smashing pumpkins that sound upbeat and happy but they’re about drug addiction and suicide lol

Yeah, I hate the way people use downvotes as a way of disagreeing. I like hearing opinions that don't match mine and I think you've expressed yours thoughtfully.

For what it's worth, I was close to 40 when I heard Jeff Buckley's version (and it was the first I'd heard, so I admit I "imprinted" on it like a duckling). And I'd had some major life curves that aged me beyond those years. But what I heard seemed authentic and relatable and not at all like a cheeky kid claiming he'd experienced the full gamut of life's vicissitudes.

Black Parade was a similar experience for. I remember vividly never being as emotionally invested as something by the time the track Mama roller around

MCR is incredibly powerful. Three cheers is solid
