The worst is Bon Jovi, hands down

I generally don't listen to anything, but sometimes if I have a long task or project I'll throw on Echoes: The best of Pink Floyd. It's got a great flow and you can just enjoy the music while you work. And it's pretty long, too, since it's a double album.

For sure! Every album has a banger and that one is full of them!

Yeah if doctors told him to do cocaine and lose some blood Beethoven would be all like

It’s common decency. And Blur showed none. And you think they are great, and that makes sense.
Ask 100 people if Blur were the Beatles of the 90s.
Even oasis is more of the Beatles of the 90s and that’s a bad take as well.

I'll listen to anything when I'm working. Lately it's been a bunch of foreign screamo bands that I've been finding so it's been quite fun.

Nice recommendations! All have that dreamy quality. Some I’ve heard, love Gymnopedie No. 1, always wondered what it was when I’d hear it on the radio/tv etc. finally figured it out a couple years ago. My favorite band, deftones has a cover of Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want. First time hearing the original I think, I like the og a lot more lol. Added a couple Floor Cry/Vansire tracks to my likes 🤙🏽

Well, here is where the subjectivity about music comes in, because when I hear them, Cale's version is understated which actually makes the lyrics more impactful, while when I hear Buckley it's almost as if he's trying too hard to give emotional resonance.
However, again, the fact is Cale's reworking of the lyrics was so profound that altering the song that it was a tectonic event. Buckley just sang it differently.
I don't think either of us is wrong, just different interpretations and reactions.

Are you Canadian? No one knows who that is outside of Canada or cares about that interview. If it makes you feel better, Dave apologized for his interview. It’s irrelevant. Sold out Wembley so guess it didn’t impact their career 😄

Yeah, but it's not. That's my point. Cale's making fine music but, for me, there's no connection to the words. He might as well be singing in a foreign language. He's Joan Sutherland and Buckley is Maria Callas.
Or to switch metaphors, Leonard Cohen's version is Moses--harsh and full of implied glory. Cale's is John the Baptist, preparing the way. But when the perfect comes, the partial must pass away.

Because Cale was the first to sort of re-jigger the original lyrics and everything subsequently - including Buckley - is just a duplicate.

Cohen's second version (the more secular one) is the absolute best.
A close second is John Cale's version, because all of the others (including Buckley) are just basically carbon copies with nothing original to them whatsoever.

This is not a critique of the music, per se, but nobody who loved the 80s would ever make a playlist like this. Some of these songs aren’t even from the 80s (Hold On, All for One, Release Me). Breakfast at Tiffany’s is closer to being a song of the 2000s than a song of the 80s. It released in 1995.
