King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. They have 25 albums and they’re all so unique and different and interesting. So much to explore. And if you’re over 35 obviously Steely Dan

Philadephonic is great, Coast to Coast/Yeah, It’s That Easy/Electric Mile are all solid. Newer albums after that IMO are less good but still worth a listen.

Edit: except Fixin to Die. It’s essentially a bluegrass/country album and that’s not my genre but I happen to love G. Love’s spin on it.

Nice to see VAST on a reddit recommendation list for once. Jon Crosby was such a boss vocalist back in the day (don't know if they are still active/touring). I think "I Don't Have Anything" is one of the most humbling and heart wrenching songs I'll ever know.

Thanks for going in with an open mind! Like most of us, I love finding new music and new bands, but I always find it extra amazing to discover one through a random internet stranger. Happenstance. Right place right time.

And for what it's worth, I'm in my mid 40s but I saw flor play live right before COVID shut everything down, so like 3 years ago or so, and and they are really good live. The vocalist sounds just as good live as he does in videos or in studio. Good energy too.

Just some random stuff off my recently listened list. I like a lot of the same music you mentioned also. But this avoids going too far out there genre wise, like Boards of Canada or Front 242:

Sparklehorse - Dark Night of the Soul

Lovage - Music to Make Love to Your Old Lady By

Jonathan Wilson - Gentle Spirit

Porcupine Tree - In Absentia

VAST - Visual Audio Sensory Theater

Purity Ring - Shrines

Ben Howard: I Forget Where We Were, End Of The Affair, Conrad, Small Things

Damien Rice: Volcano, 9 Crimes, Rootless Tree, Blower's Daughter

Bat For Lashes: Laura, All Your Gold, Oh Yeah

Give those a try. Based on your response, I can tailor further and recommend similar or heavier or poppier or whatever.

You're not wrong. Rock is more underground these days, and it's mostly nostalgia acts that bring the masses to venues nowadays. Most of the contemporary rock acts I'm aware of play small to medium size venues now.

That said, and it may just be me being an old fart who's averse to change, but I'd rather see an old rock act, nostalgia be damned, than global popstars at Lollapalooza.
