Try a few different genres out. Spend 30 min researching some of the best stuff from that genre and listen to the entire album. If you like it , dig deeper.

Have you tried out Joy Division or Lana Del Rey or early Three 6 Mafia? Cerrone? Dead Moon? Chrome? All of these artists have a ton of brilliant shit and are all quite different Happy Sampling. 😎🤘

Maybe left field for most in North America, but give a listen to Elbow. I’ve yet to find a bad album in their extensive discography.

There are ever-fewer good rock bands in the world though. Genre is kind of breaking down.

Like, who are the biggest rock bands in the world right now? Everything I hear on rock radio is either classic hits (yes, 90s is now "classic hits" according to radio programming conventions) or some unimaginative commercial garbage like Royal Blood that sounds like Wish QOTSA with the guts ripped out.

(small edit: i know I'm an old man yelling at musical clouds here - the first sentence is a sincere question!)

There are some phenomenal indie rock groups out there, but even modern vets like Courtney Barnett and Mac DeMarco feel like they are past their best already, and you can't fill an entire bill with Parquet Courts and Boygenius members.

The Strokes, actually, are a great example you gave of a rock band still making awesome music, but I feel like they're the exception. The fact that Red Hot Chili Peppers are headlining - a band formed in the 80s that haven't had a hit album since Stadium Arcadium - should tell you all you need to know about the dearth of big-ticket modern rock acts that are actually worth listening to.

The Tragically Hip—Fully Completely

If you’re a Canadian you’ll know half of this album off by heart. If not, you may never have heard it

Thanks for the recommendations. I couldn't really connect with Tame Impala and Still Woozy. I enjoyed listening to crumb and The Strokes are a band I was already pretty familiar with. The jewel of this list was Caamp. I'll be following up with them for sure.

Check out a band called Hippo Campus! 4 of the guys also have side projects which are equally as good:

Brotherkenzie, Lupin, Baby Boys, Mono Moon, and Whistler Isaiah

Edit: I realize I said 4 of the guys have side projects and named 5 bands. That band consists of Lupin (Jake Luppen) and Brotherkenzie (Nathan Stocker)
