Times have changed, my friend. I was getting paid quite a bit more as a cannabis industry worker for the last 5 years. In 2022 our crew took a substantial pay cut. Even the best established growers are struggling with the flat wholesale prices and high cost of electricity. Cannabis industry cultivation jobs are still pretty competitive, there is interest. I’m seeing more turnover with employees however. It’s hard to live in Maine with what these jobs are paying now.

You don't have to, but there are many people out there who are not financially disciplined enough to be on a longer plan and pay anything more than the minimum. I don't think my original comment was focused enough and is mostly based on my own personal experiences. I live in a neighborhood about 30 minutes north of Portland that isn't too dissimilar from the one I or my wife grew up in. The difference, however, is that the parents here who have children are either older, have two graduate-level+ careers, and/or have family helping out with childcare. The couples that don't have children still have two white collar incomes. I grew up on a police officer's salary and my wife on a truck driver's salary. The average first time homeowner demographic is very different today.

Maine doesn’t require driving tests every year to keep your license, and unless there is a serious medical notation there won’t be monitoring either. Just pay your fee every 6 years online and get a new one mailed. It usually takes an actual circumstance and then family intervention for a license to be taken away, and if you have the ability to predict circumstances you can probably make a lot of money saving those lives yourself. Good luck navigating the courts making your case though

I worked with a guy who spent a few weekends doing trimming for a local grower. It didn't sound great. Just hand trimming for hours over and over. He said they got lots of free smokes while they were working but that was the only good part. Very sticky and monotonous. The pay didn't sound great either. It might have been under the table. But it was just one place so idk.
