Not the first time someone has tried to mine the area. My family owns land there and remembers when Knox Nickel tried the same thing.
Sounds like the people of Warren are very much against. https://knox.villagesoup.com/2023/02/16/mining-faces-overwhelming-opposition-in-warren/

Object to mining? Stop using all electronics and you can live in the Stone Age. We need mining for the renewable energy industry and modern electronics to operate.
Maybe it’s possible the mining can be done in an environmentally sustainable way?
So sick of the NIMBY crowd.

Bud, from a fellow blue lad; there are assholes on both sides of the isle. Angus King is clearly one of them.

western maine is within that portland driving zone and has snow. We've done a lot of snowshow hiking on the local trails but we've also found a number of cross-country ski places that allow snowshoe trekkers and those places have been great for long "hikes" with various elevation options

I would have said the same regardless of party but your bias is clear. A leader is responsible for setting the course and culture. Can’t fall back on the excuse “it was my team not me”.

It's it great? I love the neighbors. I'm about the same though, I mind my own business, wave and smile as needed. The last snowstorm *Jake took forever to get to my house, I needed to get my kiddo to school, so I just shoveled my way out, as I was doing so a similar neighbor to yours came by with a Kubota and asked if I needed help.

So we should poison people's drinking water for smart phones. Got it.

We almost never talk to our down the street neighbor, but inevitably, every time there's more than 6 inches of snow he's rumbling down the street in his Kubota to plow out our driveway.
I don't even bother getting out our dinky electric blower anymore.

Ok, but why can't a Maine owned and operated company be created to do this? I say created because I honestly don't know if there's any mining companies in state.
Wouldn't that help create jobs, and boost our economy better than an outside company coming in?

That's the biggest joke to the guys when discussing plowing my driveway out. Jakes* gonna go plow out Jenny* now. I can assure you though, Jake isn't coming anywhere near Jenny, unless it's specifically for snow removal 😂
*Not real names lol

This is such a non-story. Every politician and corporation tries to game the PR system. Elon Musk dribbles out BS “files” on anyone he wants to tarnish. It’s embarrassing that Maine newspapers are regurgitating his propaganda.

I live in Bath with two children. Personally it's been a wonderful place to raise a family. The Chocolate Church Arts Center has amazing children's programming. The library has a beautiful children's area and lots of kid-friendly activities. There are lots of weekend events and festivals that are very family friendly and fun.
There are also lots of ways to make your own fun here. Close to beautiful beaches, good hiking and pretty parks.
Considerations: the cost of housing has increased exponentially over the past couple of years and there is also very very little housing on the market. It's extremely difficult to find a property to rent or buy in the area - affordable or not, there's just no stock.
If your kids are in daycare, there are very few childcare options and waitlists are long.

> It was expected for most people to participate in at least one sport when I was growing up. Parents don't put that pressure on their kids as much anymore.
Given that many kids don't like sports, and enjoying sports is hardly universal among adults, I can't see a downside here.
