Best beach on the East coast. The ocean park neighborhood (south of the pier) is never too crowded and easily my favorite spot to spend a summer afternoon.

The pole needs two more cement barriers. The next thing should be a little guard shack with a guy in it that comes out and waves you on when it's safe to go. I like how things like this become iconic and develop a sort of reputation. Anyone know of any other examples of things like this?

VIP are equal opportunity scammers, it's not just women. A while back the Belfast one tried to tell my brother he needed a repair of over $1k. He didn't trust them and took it to a reliable place for a second opinion — not only were they totally lying about that repair, they also totally missed a dangerous frame rust issue (which was free to fix, covered by a Toyota recall).

So, they made up a repair he DIDN'T need and missed a dangerous issue he did need fixed.

No one from my family has been there since, but based on the stories I see in this subreddit every time VIP comes up, they haven't changed anything about the way they do business.

A friend of mine postulated that maybe they’re doing it for the meme now. In this economy? I doubt it.

I know it seems to be an unpopular opinion here, but we stayed at Old Orchard last summer (about a mile from the Pier towards Pine Point) and we loved it. We are old and boring, so we don't go out at night, but we enjoyed walking on the beach in the evening and sitting during the day.

I enjoy OOB but I hate that most of their hotels are a 2 night minimum. One day and night at OOB is just about all I can stand.
