The news you see when you "look at the news a lot" is a function of the algorithmic media bubbles you've chosen to surround yourself in, not what news outlets have actually chosen to report upon.
Every major outlet has had significant, continual, in depth coverage since the event. If you didn't see that but think you should have, you really ought to take a look at your media diet and figure out why that is.

The car would be left on to power the heater or AC unit. And it is quite safe, remote starters for preheating/cooling cars have been a thing for a very long time.
> The dog isn’t touching anything except the floor with his paws / the same as a person with their feet/ shoes.
The dog sheds and hair gets everywhere.

While it's very locally bad, it's not even close the the worst Ohio has ever seen, much less the US. It's not "mini chernobyl" ffs - the real bulk of the problem comes from the phosgene and hydrogen cloride released in the burning of the vinyl chloride. Very nasty chemicals, but ones that rapidly dissipate.
The Cuyahoga river literally caught on fire 18 times. It used to be an entirely dead waterway. No fish could live there, nothing could live there besides a few invertebrates. The fact that there are even animals present to kill in the first place makes this not nearly as bad as past Ohioan environment debacles.
If you look at the whole country... I mean come on. Google Love Canal. Look at pictures of Centralia, PA, if you want an example of an actual Chernobyl-like exclusion zone in the US. This is unfortunate and will certainly not be without consequences, but we're way better at destroying the planet than this. It's not even that bad in the narrow category of "rail disaster chemical spills" - the 1979 Mississauga derailment makes this look trivial.
It has also been reported on extensively, in every major outlet. Come on, not everything needs to be shades of conspiracy. If you're not seeing anything about it, that's more of a symptom of the algorithmic media bubble you've chosen for yourself than a lack of reporting.
The disaster was bad, but perspective still matters. It's being treated in social media as practically apocalyptic, and it just isn't. The real tragedy here looks to be how avoidable it was, and that should be the focus.
Oh, and if it will actually be a Chernobyl-like long term disaster that will permanently contaminate the area and limit human habitation, it will be the best thing to happen to the Ohio environment in a long time.

Who cares either way? Rich homeowners bitching about some rich developers building some condos for rich people?

I am allergic to honey & roses but I still am able to go to the grocery store without incident. Also leave the dog in the car with heater or AC with out the car on??? Yeah sounds super safe & not a reality. Again get over the fact you can’t control everything in life & again the food in the grocery store is not sterile in any way… even the packaged food has been touched by many many people all with germs little hands. The dog isn’t touching anything except the floor with his paws / the same as a person with their feet/ shoes.

I've worked around paint too much in my life. If I ever touch foot in California I'll instantly get cancer.

Have you ever considered that some people may be allergic to dogs? It’s also possible to leave the heat (or AC) on in a car without being in it.

I managed a clothing store for 16 years and we let dogs in all the time. We would never confront someone as you never know how these people will react. In no way do the sales associates at hannies ( whatever this is), get paid enough to confront people about thier dogs in a store if they are not hurting anyone. That being said, as a customer, I would so much rather have a dog in a grocery store than toddler or baby. So there is that. I have seen kids do really stupid things in stores and never seen a dog act like an asshole in a store.

This is some classic NIMBY bullshit. More housing is better for everyone that doesn't own property, keeps rent down and devalues overly inflated home prices

Honestly I see this as a major customer relationship issue to be handled by management. If the manager says it’s a problem, they should handle it themselves and not shirk responsibility.

Gets life. Where do you think produce comes from sterile factories? No it comes from dirty stinky farms. Dog in a grocery store ain’t gonna hurt no produce or meat… maybe people can’t leave their dog home, or are in a bind & it is too cold outside to leave in the car. Seriously so many other issues in life & this is your hill to die on. smh

That's actually one of the cutest modern apartment construction drawings I've ever seen. I'd love it if they built more like that--usually they're hideous

Hey, I work in a grocery store where dogs are sometimes around. The worst they do is sniff clothes that aren’t even being worn by people. People, on the other hand…

They won't do anything about it until we start complaining. Ask to see the manager every time you see one or at least ask for and fill out a comment card. Every time. Unless they get enough documented complaints they'll continue to take the path of least resistance.

I was in Walmart years back in the DVDs, and a guy next to me arched back and hocked a loogie right at Saving Private Ryan. I said nothing, he said nothing and he walked away.

I'm willing to bet nearly none of them. That's why I suggested using Portland as your center.
