Normally when you email something, you can't know if someone opened it. Because you basically tell the email company, "tell them I said X".

So to get around this, you put in a specific address to a website that you control.

When someone opens the email, it'll be told "automatically load the picture from this website", where the picture is a single dot. Their email program "fetches" the dot.

When you go to check to see if they read the email, you can see when they opened the email because that's when the email program asks your website to show the picture (and logs it).

What this guy is saying is that instead of asking your website to keep loading that dot each time, it'll do it the first time and then just save the picture.

It might be desperation honestly. People looking for anything they can get for free to sell online for some extra cash. I noticed you said in a comment that you’re a household item store- household items can be pricey and not everyone can afford what they need. They might see dumpster diving as an easy way to either one, get the necessities they can not otherwise afford, or two, resell items to make some extra money. Would you care to elaborate? Because I love my relatives but that doesn't mean they're equipped to help me process the shit they put me through.

A therapist has learned to do exactly that, and I expect said therapist to do the job they're supposed to do. I still need to do the emotional processing myself, but they're the one teaching me how to do this. It's also their objectivity that actually helps a lot because they're able to oversee the situation without any personal stake.
