Yeah...unless one spends it how it's not supposed to...no joking when. I read that the faces of 3 couples I know floated into my mind. Clearly it's horses for courses and there's no one size fits all

I will certainly take your suggestion under consideration.

I find this advice counterintuitive to marriage. I feel finances should be combined as one. I know this is anecdotal but everytime I've heard about issues in a marriage that stems from finances, I find out that they treated their income as their own.

I think a better tip would be that now that chocolate candy is unaffordable it's a great opportunity to wean yourself off of candy dependency.

Reply to LPT: You wouldn’t care what people thought of you, if you knew how much they didn’t. by [deleted]
Weird, I think about people all the time. I notice their shape, their clothes, their mannerisms, their voice, their walk, their way of speaking, etc. And if I have to interact with them I pay even more attention.
I think most people don’t notice anything beyond themselves, and often don’t even pay attention to their own surroundings, so you’re probably mostly correct.

Easier for budgeting. Figure out how much you need to put in the joint account for bills, only use it for bills, don’t have to think about it anymore or worry if one of the accounts doesn’t have enough for whatever reason. Nothing to argue about unless one of you spends it how you’re not supposed to.

Reply to LPT request: How to reduce my anxiety? by quantafolia
Go to your doc, meds are great for anxiety and not remotely "dumbing" like people think. Changed many peoples lives ive known...like crazy.
So many peoples parents thought this was a social issue...it is..but its also biological, and more for some than others
Seek PROFESSIONAL help

Never had any issues with a shared account.
Only recently opened separate accounts for sportsbetting since using the same account can be an issue

Why have a joint bank account? In the uk many things can take half the requires money from 2 accounts. I've known alot of married couples and the joint account became a constant issue.

My fiancee and I do this, the percentages we each contribute is closer to 50% of our paychecks each and we use that to cover all the bills, groceries and nights out. The rest we have in personal accounts to use as we please.

The Red Cross recommends having 72 hours' worth of materials. Typically after that duration there's other supports coming and it's now a real crisis!
Remember, you're not actually going to starve within 72 hours, and a wasted fridge full of food is a small price to pay.
Know whether your furnace and water will still work in the event of an outage. If they won't, have blankets handy and fill the tub or buckets with water. Setting aside some in clean containers for drinking is nice. Bring in fuel for the fireplace, if you have one.
Fuel for BBQ (don't cook with gas in the house!) in case you need to cook a freezer full of food. A fuller freezer will stay frozen longer than an empty one. Avoid opening the fridge door to get things. A camp stove could be handy to use also outside.
Canned goods and other foods that don't need heating/cooling. Nuts, fruit, PB&J, spaghetti-os, tortilla chips and canned chili, etc. It's always good to have some of these on hand anyway.
A crank radio and crank flashlight. You can use your car radio, but that's chilly!
Backup battery charger for your phone. Try to use other devices and entertainment sources instead. Your phone is a valuable lifeline.
Lights: candles are cheapest but obviously not safest! Solar lights are great!
Shovels and road salt handy
Stock up on medication, pet food
If you have houseplants and no heat, cluster them together and cover with a blanket or tarp. If you have a fish tank, cold water has less oxygen. You can heat water on a BBQ or blow into a tube to aerate (that one's obviously much tougher!!!) You can also wrap the tank in blankets to retain heat longer.
Also, a car kit!!! And make sure you always have lots of gas in the car. There's tons of checklists for what should be in your winter car kit. They actually save lives.
