Nah, you're absolutely right. My mistake for not reading all the details. Original comment deleted.

Reply to LPT - Record videos snuggling your pets and telling them how good they are/how much you love them. by shartdeco
While we were waiting for the vet to come help our Lab Bella cross over, my husband sat in the back and made up a song about how she was the best dogga ever while holding her paw. He still can’t sing the song a year and a half later. I wish I had video.

I made it specific because I’ve only realized it too late both times. If even one person catches it in time to help and save a good relationship, then it’s worth the specificity

This is a very particular case, but the more general advice is that if people in your life stop doing the day to day mundane things, then check in on them. When people stop consistently doing things like chores, exercise or even just waking up early it's likely symptomatic of a bigger issue.

My mom used to do this. I noticed.

I got bad news for you. The inside of most washing mashines are made of metal and usually even have plastic parts inside to stir the clothes more.

How is "tell your kids petty lies" an LPT? Like they're not going to go to eat it and realize they got the shitty slice of bread and then they won't know who made the sandwich?
Just give them the fucking piece of bread and say if they don't like it they can make their own sandwich.

One of the main responsibilities of being a father is to eat the heels of the bread. I didn't sign up for this job, but it is mine.

LPT: If someone starts behaving differently, it's probably for a reason. Be a friend, check on them, and steer their minds to a better place as needed.

Reply to LPT request - techniques for teaching a practical skill in a 1-1 setting, someone you don’t know. by quipp68
This may sound odd, but I avoid using negative language like, "don't".
The rationale is that sometimes when you say something like, "Don't do it this way." There is a chance that they will register "Do it this way."
Instead (and I explain why I sometimes speak this way before I start teaching) I say something like, "This is incorrect", or, "This is a bad example."
Those phrases are less correct grammatically, but less likely to be misinterpreted as well.

I was a dog trainer for years, where I primarily taught owners how to train their dkgs, then managed a grooming salon where I taught new employees how to bathe and do basic grooming.
My recommendation is to get a beginner book of whatever you're teaching or write down the fundamentals so a) you don't miss any of the important foundation information and b)so you can teach in a cohesive way that builds on itself.
Foundation is the most important thing for learning new skills, and you want to make sure your trainee gets a really solid one before moving on to more technical aspects.
