I do my best to explain to my kid all day long. They love the conversation. But you have to mix it up by asking them “Why do you think?” Sometimes they already have the answer and sometimes they come up with crazy ideas.

You’re paid to fulfill your job duties, not to sit at your desk 40+ hours a week. If your work is getting done well, you’re doing your job well.

Going overly slow can get you and others stuck in deep snow. I had a bad snowstorm before I could get my winters on and I live at the top of a steep hill. The guy infront of me went up it at 15km/h. I swore at him the whole way up because we did almost get stuck. The worst part was he was going 60 before the hill (way way too fast) so I went from having plenty of space to follow to none very quickly. He made it to the top and went 60 again (it was a 50) and he nearly slid out on ice into a bunch of people by a plaza. Pick a reasonable speed and keep it.

Is it possible to set a time to push these questions back? Like, answer the questions when you can, but if it gets too tiring is it possible to go "okay, write down your questions, and at dinner we can go through 3 of them?"

Google will inherently distribute the traffic equally on all roads. So the most you will save by going to a less busy area is a couple of minutes before it becomes crowded with other drivers.

If you don't know the roads that form the detour then just stay on the highway always and ignore detours. Unless you can see with your eyes or heat on the radio that there is an actual crash that has just happened and haven't been cleared

Work at work, don't work when you're not at work. Especially of you're hourly! Your employer doesn't own you, and if you're hourly and you're off the clock they're not even paying you.

If you're salaried they still don't own you but you can expect to put in some not-directly-compensated hours to help get projects finished or deadlines met. Don't ever let them guilt you into missing important things in your personal life though. Someone you know dies, go to the funeral. Your kid has a recital or game, be there. Friend or family in town, take time off to spend it with them. Loved one in the hospital, be there. Take a vacation, so you can stand to put up with the crappy parts of your job.

If you're done for the day and have a great idea for something at work, write it down and plan to deal with it at work. Don't obsess over it on your own time. Have a live outside of work because someday you'll want to retire but if all you do is work, you won't know what to do or who you are without it.

You're allowed to have fun, and more than anything a shit ton of studies have proven time and time again that the best output comes out of individuals and teams when they're given specific tasks and timetables and have their needs met.

The example below assumes individual/team are familiar with their jobs and are capable of meeting deadlines, but yeah The more freedom they're given, the more creative they can get with it and collaborate, and they're more engaged. Cant tell you the number of times some idiot tried to do some Dwight Schrute-esqe management and the hard earners left immediately and sucked the team energy and engagement and ruined the culture of the group.

Again, each situation can, and almost is different and these are very general terms and individuals may have other life events happening that take away their attention.....but for me personally and generally speaking,i look at it as if i can deliver the content on time and budget....and am able to choose between fun and excited vs miserable or absolutely no fun....i dunno, im going for fun!

I don't know for sure as it never snows here. We have locals drive through flood waters and get caught and drift away. Some have died as a result unfortunately.

Don't drive immediately home, and certainly not near a school or playground, if you suspect the mechanic might have attached a bomb to your vehicle.

That or "take the mill bay ferry" yes that ferry that fits like 10 cars ...sure

In the vast majority of cases you’re right including on ice. ABS will stop your car faster while allowing you to have control of your steering. I think in heavy heavy snow, you could decelerate faster if you lock up as the snow piles under the front of your tire.

They're combining the maps and waze teams at Google. Which sucks, because waze is great for driving and the maps team have never really cracked that one to the same degree, but I think they'll be the lead team so goodbye good navigation app.
