I grew up in a family of great home cooks. I'm a decent cook but I always thought there was too much money spent on holiday meals. The point (IMO) is family and friends. I always make a lot of something simple and serve a variety of beverages (alcoholic & non). I don't spend days thawing and prepping and going broke. The result is the same: family & friends enjoying time together & being fed. Traditions are great but sometimes I think we forget the point of time together.

Good tip. I carry cheap luggage because it's going to get banged up by baggage handlers. I have always wound some blue painter's tape around the handles so I can identify it on the carousel.

I personally ribbon the zipper pulls and have a bag tag. Have more than one identifier: luggage has it rough in transit and stuff falls off all the time.

If you can, get brightly colored or patterned luggage for the same reason, thousands of bags are black or navy or brown: much fewer are brilliant green.

can't do. must come up with $900 + for rent / gas / detergent etc. due on January 1st so can't take days off ... did the math already, plus tons of homework is due December 26th ...

I've never had a holiday... literally. been working ever since I can remember ... hopefully some day I'll experience a " complete break " ... but it's too much to hope for ..
