In the case of the othe original comment it is most definetly meant figuratively to make a point, to ephasise how one should focus on themselves first, giving less redards to other for the benefit of ones self. At least this is how it came off to me.

As a previous commenter mentioned, what you call average is what many might aspire to. I'm aware that that's not what you want to hear or that you find helpful, so here's my practical advice for you:

If you're honest when you say you value the stuff in your life you need to accept it, your "average" life. Desire nothing more than but to nurture what you already have. You might also find this brings value to others.

I also advise you see a therapist.

A new affair of sorts - career, romantic, life passion - can be great, but if you're someone who thrives in stability or needs it, understand that the risk profile for engaging in one these activities is high. The cost for being above average requires sacrifice. Whichever decision you make, you'll need to accept full responsibility, as you are for your current mindset.

That’s terrible advice. Imagine if we all just treated others like we didn’t care what they thought of us

And that's what got me through highschool!

I stopped caring about failing and what others would think about that, and I did it! Failed, that is.

I got some help days before finals and got probably extremely lucky, without feeling the actual gravity of the situation (but feeling the usual window/anxiety).

Almost 2 years ago, that's a different person now.

Some of them are not empowering at all.

Some interesting quote that some people should actually know is "emotion does not invalidate purpose, it informs it". it is from the game the fall 2 unbound.

The context is a long story so I will keep it short: The robot buttler had depression and was convinced that he can't have both emotions and a life's purpose at once, so since he has a purpose in life he must not have any emotions. When arid made him realize that he does have emotions he paniced, that's when she told him that.
