Because you weren’t allowed back then doesn’t mean you’re not allowed now.

Everyone’s situation is different, and you might have plenty of obstacles; don’t let your own cynicism be another obstacle against yourself.

It’s not about having an easy answer that will fix all your problems. It’s about having a goal to work towards.

What you described is screaming that you should read "The Now Habit" by clinical psychologist Neil Fiore. I mention his credentials because the book is based on his clinical practice instead of being your usual self-help guru book. Pretty concrete practical stuff. He talks about various negative motivational styles and how they can be retrained to more proactive styles, and how you can embrace gradual improvements rejecting extreme goalsetting. Pretty big focus on CBT based therapy, which is a pretty universally accepted therapeutic method.

Extra pro tip: you’re also allowed to be content with what you have and NOT strive for more, but rather towards bettering yourself and achieve the best life for YOU (and those around you). Which isn’t mutually exclusive with the original comment but just saying that material things and money doesn’t increase your life quality as long as one has enough to pay life’s necessities and a few pleasures sometimes.

Exactly. I hate these bullshit motivational things that try to make it sound so easy to just make positive changes in your life. I dropped out of college because i couldn't afford it and didn't have time to work full time and pay all my bills AND spend the time on classes. Now, I feel like i have less time and energy to devote to classes, and don't have much more money either.

That’s why I think this doodle is generally accurate. The first one is the foundation on which all the others can be built.

I spend every spare penny I have on my health, have run into debt, have fought like hell and it still isn’t enough. I have no career, no family. All these people saying health is overvalued should reevaluate their perspective.
