Thanks for writing down my issues. I can now just send this post to my therapist. But jokes apart, I think one has to unlearn the fear/anxiety response and then build positive motivation for achieving goals. I’m still in the process but I’ve figured that you cannot skip straight to positive motivation. Unlearning the anxiety response is critical. I’m using meditation, medication, journaling, exercise, breathing exercises, yoga to retrain my neural network.

“Don’t do this!” or “Do this!” has never worked for me. For example, when I dislike my mother-in-law, even if someone says “you must love your enemy,” how can I?

However, when I understand her life and become compassionate with her, I can learn a kind of psychology from her and I can thank her for giving me a chance to study firsthand psychology, and then I can work harder to become a better person who even can love my enemy.

Appreciation and Love naturally occur when we try to learn from others. I can’t memorize those many imperative forms either because my life would become too complex to enjoy.

Characters written into CS Lewis books depict this. Surprised on revisiting Chronicles of Narnia the characters are flawed and through some failure have a redemption arc. Think Edmund in the first. Eustace in Dawn Treader beats you over the head with the theme. The mouse Reepicheep beats you over the head with contrasting the idea of cowardace by contrasting characters against his embodiment of courage.
