I guess it depends on who manufactured the AI.
It can be used for good or bad. An authoritarian government would obviously use it for malevolent purposes.

Wish it was hitting today....yes tongue in cheek not really hoping for massive death and destruction. That would be bad

Trucks use something like 10 times more fuel to move the same amount of stuff the same distance. Ships are by far the most fuel efficient vehicle.

Yeah the economics of carbon capture literally dont work, which is why the Biden admin subsidized it to get it started. Sending us further into deficit for a really stupid idea.

Just make a “sewer bong” and store it in our waste water.

Your root fallacy here is this: " It has to be democratized via consumerist channels thanks to the profit motive." This is not true. Capitalism does not inherently democratize its tools, quite the opposite. The entire history of the internet so far has been one of monopolization and the increased concentration of wealth and power into fewer and fewer hands. That is already happening with AI. It's all about who owns the algorithms, and guess what, given our current economic structures it's the tech giants and Wall Street who are going to own them.
Some-Ad9778 t1_jbomcxf wrote
I completely disagree. AI is not sentient and will not go through any democratic procedures. It is going to be used to eliminate jobs and weaken the working class

The only reason that's not a thing anymore is due to passenger safety.
They still make large sedans with ample interior space.

AI is built on human behavior models, which dramatically de-emphasizes things like any concept of altruism, ethics, equity or empathy. The internet was thought that it would be a great change agent for democratization across the globe too. Just the opposite occurred. AI of any kind will never save humans from themselves.

Australia and New Zealand are actually two of the hardest countries to emigrate to.

It’s great that you see the inherent advantages of decentralized capitalism for preventing a state monopoly on AI. But surely you see that the exact same advantages apply to previous technologies too?
The point of decentralized capitalism is not that it always makes the optimum decisions, but rather that it avoids the perils of centralizing decisions in a single authority.

Emissions in the US and Europe have been dropping for 20 years, so it’s not all just greenwashing.

Not OP, but suffering comes from within. The folks in Minneapolis seem to have no issues biking during the winter. Damn cheerful people.
I think there are other ways to help the climate besides biking in the snow, but the objection here is even more trivial than the initial suggestion was.

Ah I see, that makes sense. I personally drive a PHEV so that number would seem low for a PHEV sedan.

Oh, I specified because 52 mpg is just really good compared to most cars, and if someone has never looked at a regular hybrid before, they may see that number and assume there is some kind of plug in nature to it. I just want to convince people they can get a gas-only powered car AND get outstanding mileage if they just look at a hybrid.
Less wear and tear on the vehicle too, those hybrids tend to last longer than their gas counterparts because the engine/brakes are not always used when driving, as the battery and regenerative brakes pick up some of the slack. Cool stuff if you aren't ready for a fully electric car.

So they're gonna capture CO2 then put it on a cargo ship and ship it across the ocean, which is one of the most carbon-intensive things we do. Okay.

And yet the population in denmark is looking at extreme taxes on power ($0,3/kwh for transport, and another $0,15/kwh because F you and then the price) and extreme taxes on already expensive meat ($15/pound + 30% F you tax)
