Rain rain rain and fucking wind. But we are not made from sugar so don't be a cry baby and get on the fucking bike even when it's raining, snowing, storming, or high windspeeds. You will be fine

Yeah, I have a home-built kit for my Chevy Volt that has kept my sump pump, furnace, router, and freezer going during storms.

It does, you release emissions when you exercise

The most needed thing will be intelligence. A strong knowledge of electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and manufacturing. All that AI and robotics wont work if a strong EM pulse hits the earth like from a sun spot. And we will need the ability to rebuild all the electrical machines, from the generating of electricity to the refrigerators and auto mobiles. Because when a strong EM pulse hits any thing that has a electrical charge in it or once had a charge becomes inert useless. And the only way to protect from this is a very strong faraday cage.

I think that’s very unlikely. No democrat would agree to a federal law banning abortion, which means 100% of the Republicans would have to agree to that ban, which would be wildly unpopular in many of their states.

I live in western New York (just on the other side of lake Ontario from the Toronto area), most of those "where will be the best places to live when the climate changes" click bait articles list here. We'll get less snow. Might get slightly more under-boob sweat in the summers, but cataclysmic climate emergencies are pretty unlikely here.

Well, disagree.
Every good idea starts somewhere, and I’d love to see this one go somewhere.
Out of curiosity, are you an engineer or a manager or both?

>4.5lbs of Carbon-dioxide per 20,000 miles
Great! This will really offset the 4.2 metric TONS of co2 that a typical gas car emits every year.
In all seriousness, the magnitude of continuous co2 emissions over the life of an ice vehicle underscores the need to rapidly transition to EVs.

The reason the property values are so high is cause housing here in NZ is often a better investment than the stock market. Also best advice for coming to NZ to live, get wealthy and experienced first. Cause you’re gonna have a high cost of living here and your almost certainly gonna earn less here than you would overseas.

It’s nice to hear some optimism but US Civil War talk is not insanity. We have one of the two main political parties favoring Christian Nationalism and scoffing at the rule of law. They have already installed a kangaroo court, control many state governments, and have attempted to overturn an election. Trump was an egotistical idiot. We might not be so lucky with the next Republican in power.

Meanwhile according to the IPCC the only way we reach any of our climate goals is by using carbon capture.
Hmm, who to trust, the IPCC or reddit know it alls?

People on reddit are incessantly critical of everything they see.
Even important advances that might be major parts of our ability to fight climate change, the comments will be entirely negative and suggesting that it was a complete waste.
Just the culture of the website I guess.

In simple terms, instead of extracting something from nothing, the energy was "borrowed" from somewhere else, taking advantage of the idea of quantum entanglement, the fact that two subatomic particles can change their state in line with the other, even when the two are separated by a distance.

>This is what's cynical.
Really ?
If the carbon filtration as a feature of the car is not a dead-end what possible research or practial purpose does it serve then ?
If it does not have a research or pratical purpose - why add it ?
The student team and their mentors would obviously know this as well. The only conclusion I can see is to add a feature to the project car that would make it more interesting in a superficial way (i.e. with no deeper technical purpose). In other words they added "something cool" - carbon removal to a carbon neutral car.
The fact that the feature is used to make the project car seem more interesting is literally in the article in the description of the team lead.
It's also a central feature they spotlight on the project page: https://www.tuecomotive.nl/our-family/zem/
>This is very different than what OP is saying.
I don't think it is. This is a decently big project with quite a few sponsors and the university team has been building cars like this since 2013. Having the knowledge and resources to maintain such a team and a string of somewhat big projects which result in vehicles that are showcases of knowledge - that's a big thing for a university. It's a great pipeline for students to industry, attracts students, offers great learning opportunities and generally generates both press and a dose of prestige, just like the other examples I used.

What happens if senate and WH get taken by a republican next election? Federal bans on abortion and being gay/trans? Do the policies even stay in the US or would the leader of the free world export them by any means necessary?

Trans people are not outlawed. Discriminated against, not outlawed, and less than ever.
Police abuse was far worse 30 and 40 years ago, before cameras were everywhere to record it.
Far right movements are growing everywhere, not just the US.

We've had flying cars since the early 90's. The problems are
-
they're not more gas efficient than driving on the ground.
-
There aren't well established rules for flying cars.
-
Crashes are more dangerous.

This is similar to the plot of my favorite Asimov novels:
“The main plot-line is a project by those who inhabit a parallel universe (the para-Universe) with different physical laws from this one. By exchanging matter from their universe—para-Universe—with our universe, they seek to exploit the differences in physical laws. The exchange of matter provides an alternative source of energy to maintain their universe. However, the exchange will likely result in the collapse of the Earth's Sun into a supernova, and possibly even turning a large part of the Milky Way into a quasar. There is hope among those in the para-Universe that the energy explosion does happen in our universe.”
