I feel pretty good about living in Canada. The temperature is usually memed on but it will become more temperate with climate change (a depressing win on that one). Our democracy isn't perfect but it's one of the best in the world. And the only danger we are in under the american military umbrella is the US itself - so in an instance where USA becomes so fucking wild that they're invading Canada then literally nowhere on earth is safe at that point I imagine.

It's kinda like a helicopter that they made worse in every single way.

An R22 is like half the price, goes something like 10x the distance, goes like 2-3x the speed, and sits two people inside a cockpit.

I think these manufacturers need to accept that flying car/bike is a dumb idea. Cars & bikes are designed that way because it's an efficient form for ground transit. Vehicles in the sky should be designed for flight, not to look like a car.

But that was the point I was making -- EVEN IF you could get these installed in every vehicle IMMEDIATELY (which we can't) and EVEN IF there was virtually no CO2 emissions related to building them and installing them and taking care of used filters (and there would be some), they'd have almost literally no impact.

It would be equivalent to enacting some sort of legislation that would reduce the average annual driving for Americans from 13,476 miles to 13,472 miles.

Sure, it is better if people drive even 4 miles less than they do now and every little bit helps, but in this instance we are talking about an absurdly tiny little bit.

Precisely. Hell, we're still a ways off from trustworthy self-driving vehicles, given that the software still isn't as good as us meatbags. Even if we do get automated semi-trucks with reliable programming, getting them approved from a regulatory perspective will also slow things down considerably.

Doesn't matter, now that the majority accept climate change is an issue the car manufactures have to invent and push the idea that "cars are part of the solution".

Expect a lot of these stories in the coming years and very little challenge to the viability of the ideas in them.

Yes, that's what would happen once a majority of vehicles in the road are electric. You have to roll out these types of regulations slowly for them to work well. Targeting it at EVs to start makes sense because the manufacturers are consumers are aligned in the interest of going green. Only after a significant proportion of vehicles have this feature can you then extend the regulation to gas powered vehicles, when public opinion is on the government's side and can shame/boycott manufacturers into committing to the new feature. Otherwise, they will find the cheapest way to implement it, or lobby against it, or self sabatoge the feature (like making it difficult or expensive for the owner to maintain) in order to eventually turn public opinion and have the regulation removed.

might be true that ppl in management wont like to relinquish, but for others-most of marketing could be done by AI nowadays or in next years, law could be similar, point isnt that the profession will be replaced alogether in near future but that existing lawyers etc will be much more efficient and there will be too many of them for the amount of work that needs to be done, so there will not really be need for new ones

So let me make sure I understand you. You don’t think someone should go into tech yet you say a non tech person can’t code with AI? You are not being consistent.

This whole conversation is based on conjecture and speculation. You accuse me of only citing my feeling yet you have provided no evidence. Feel free to drop in some facts or citations to anything you said and stop being hypocritical.

Where did I say a non tech person could do that? I dont think all jobs will go away but for every 20 now there will be 1 in the future. And no it would be like 5-10 years from now based on current growth. Do you have any points that arent just based on your feelings?
