This technology is nothing new. Here's an old video on how they make these chips, and how incredible the possibilities are.

Literally every human ever who didnt kill someone when they got angry enough to? Or every human ever who didnt steal something because they were slightly hungry in that moment.

I mean its like talking to a 6th grader.

Jesus Christ dude. A single example of a person who has overcome their instincts please.

Reply to New medical device can detect and analyze cancer cells from blood samples, allowing doctors to avoid invasive biopsy surgeries, and to monitor treatment progress. by chrisdh79
From the article: It’s one of the most exciting areas of cancer research, but identifying the tumors through blood tests remains difficult, particularly for early-stage detection.
Despite breakthrough blood-test research for many types of cancers and specific sources such as lung and breast cancers, and the flourishing field of development of multi-cancer early detection (MCED) tests, screening generally still involves invasive biopsies of cells.
Researchers at the University of Technology (UTS) in Sydney, Australia, are hoping to change that, with the development of their new biotech, the Static Droplet Microfluidic (SDM) device. It can quickly detect circulating tumor cells (CTC) that have split from the cancer source to enter the bloodstream. It paves the way for very early detection, monitoring and treatment.
“A single tumor cell can exist among billions of blood cells in just one milliliter of blood, making it very difficult to find," said Majid Warkiana, professor from the UTS School of Biomedical Engineering. "The new detection technology has 38,400 chambers capable of isolating and classifying the number of metabolically active tumor cells."
The SDM can pick out tumor cells through a unique metabolic signature involving waste product lactate.

Well heck, why not. Artificial intelligence programs running on organic computers. I know we said we weren't going to make replicants, but heck, they're just so darn neat is all. I mean yeah of course we'll program them feel pain and fear, why wouldn't we? It just wouldn't be an authentic personality otherwise. Oh and yes absolutely we're working on replicating psychosis in an AI. Heck, maybe we can even just throw the code for that into the next mandatory automatic secret update, you know that would totally make them even more authenticl. No, I don't think we really have time to test it, we have deadlines to meet. Future's looking bright!

Uhhhhhhhhhh what assertations have you backed up? You are making huge claims about the entirety of humanity and just stating them as if theyre fact and then ignoring everything I say and screaming that Im not doing the same. Poverty leads to crime because of a whole host of reasons. Our instincts dont lead to any of that, our society forces our hand to those options currently unless you're lucky enough to have been taught otherwise. If poverty was all it took to get to crime we would have hundreds of thousands of murders each day. You come across as someone who read some "facts" in middle school that disturbed them and never bothred to learn anymore.

I genuinely don’t get why humans even WANT to try doing this shit after all the movies we’ve seen.
How does it not end in catastrophe?

What do you mean? They're talking about from the user perspective which "race" the avatar of the AI appears to be. I do find this study suspect tho

And again, not a single piece of evidence or even a general idea of how it can happen any other way. Just more bold ass assertions and nut uhs
And no, none of us have. Poverty leads to crime because everyone will take from their fellow man for personal survival. You will, I will, we all will because that is who we have evolved to be. Our instincts lead to lust, greed, self preservation, depression, fear, anger, jealousy. Give me a single example of a person who has overcome all of that. Stop making assertions that you refuse to back up with examples.

What? Some of us have. Just because were still struggling with it doesnt mean we wont get over it, though if the gop takes over in the next election cycle well be set back 100 years. We are not capable of space travel right now in the sense you're discussing you silly little goose. Unless I missed us being able to get people past the moon? Did I?

Putting race or culture in AI could be useful as test cases for analysis I suppose but it seems like a dead end either for itself or humans, at least east as we know it. Very early times and far to go.

The difference in energy consumption is a big selling point, if theories turn into reality. It takes only 12 watts to power a human brain, which is jaw dropping efficiency, particularly compared to energy required for machine learning training. If energy efficiency is an inherent part of OI, this would be a huge step forward and possibly a viable platform for real AGI.

A black AI. Really? Remember ALL media just wants to piss you off. Please please remember this. That's the whole goal so they keep us at each other's throats instead of focusing on their corruption.

I guess I can see why a science magazine would describe something like magic. It makes it sound more appealing to people who don't understand science. But it's also not true.

Reading "Lunar Standard Time" would be so fucking cool. knowing what time it is on the moon and what the schedule it would typically be since there probably wont be a Day/Night cycle and definitely no seasons.
