I wouldn't sneeze at them, people in the trades make bank.
Check the income of say, an elevator repair technician.

Not true. AI will start taking jobs in less than 5 years.

The future is just the future. This weird descriptor of saying who it belongs to is kind of nonsensical. That being said, yeah, AI has massive potential to do all kinds of amazing wonderful things. It also has the potential to make our lives a nightmare we were never even able to comprehend. This is like the birth of nuclear weapons except it’s way more complicated than just a big weapon that goes boom, and frankly at this point I don’t even think there is any going back. The idea that we can just control it also seems very in line with our naive human ego.

Do you have a quick way out of being “working class”?

Which makes the point of teaching children AI. That's what I think this book is about. Getting kids ahead of the curb. AI can't create itself. We go where the jobs are. Look at how many people worldwide went into tech. We can't stop whats coming. All we can do is prepare our kids for their future now. I would rather inspire my kid on how to build AI tech, rather than be a doctor these days.

I don't get the reaction. Do you not need to eat? Are you counting on the kindness of strangers?
In capitalist society you can die in the streets and people walk right over your body. It is how the system works.
The more economic power you can wield, the more grows your power exponentially in appearence. Appearence gives gives you access to more power and thus more appearence. These are compounding effects setting some massively appart from the general population.
With enough credit for example, you can settle in a nice school district. You can bond with other parents and give your kids opportunities they would never have elsewhere.
It is more important to run with the right crowd than anything else. You can be lazy, dumb, incompetent, greedy, whatever, as long as you are plugged into with the right people your life will turn out better.

It’s always rattled my nerves that some people who know how to draw…that doodle masterpieces on bathroom walls and their own ass in minutes…when asked to draw something simple on commission go on an ego tangent about how that same bathroom doodle will now cost 100+$ for them to draw something for you because they went to Brown University and have unique and special hands.
As a digital necromancer, our time has come. And we will design as many kick ass T-Shirts and graphic novels as fast as our computers can pump them out.

Artists and writers think they should be protected from automation. The rest of us have to deal with it as a threat to our livelihood. But they shouldn’t have to because reasons.

Singularity might come within the next decade, but it will still be a long time before many jobs within a corporation are replaced. I am an OT manager, who drives our organization to ride the front wave of technology. It's insanely difficult to do, because big corporations are slow to adopt.
Especially when you start talking about automation of workflows that involve AI deciding what to do with your data, security is gonna drag that down endlessly.
That being said, id be staying away from any kind of software development. ChatGPT can write me a very well annotated PowerShell script in 30 seconds that used to take my guys a day to build. Once AI in that space really gets going, developers are gonna be sol.

I think people will turn away from big, mass produced media and look to alternative, small creators.

I’d argue the opposite. 1. TikTok and YouTube are all popular because of the connection with the creator, much more than tv/movies. 2. These are so heavily centered around trends, which is another form of viewer to viewer connection. You feel a part of something bigger still. 3. These are still “social” media - comments and sharing are a huge part of the platform and popularity. 4. Customization takes effort from the viewer which is the opposite direction these platforms are trying to move in. The whole point of TikTok is they got rid of user discovery, lowering the barrier to entry and getting rid of the most common exit journeys for users.

A lot of experts are predicting the singularity to happen in 2 decades and some much less. That seems like our future to me.

What system is this? Some Keurig or Nespresso model? You already can buy drip coffeemakers, moka pots, espresso machines etc that don't have any of that technology. I don't know which system you're talking about, but the timer may have been to encourage de-scaling.

> Televisions were way more expensive back then, though, and advances in CRTs was really slow
Reddit generally has trouble accepting that a) prices have gone down, and 2) products have improved. We want stuff for dirt cheap but also think that if it wasn't for "greed" then things would last basically forever, like the survivorship-bias outlier examples of our relative's washing machine, refrigerator, or television.

There is no way I would teach my kids, machines are coming to kill us. We are not Gods. We can not create life, we can only simulate it. There is no way for machines to become human. At least I hope not... I need more info.. Any articles?

Well, yeah. Capitalism sucks, obviously. But what are the alternatives? Don't you want the best chance possible of making it through this climate?
