This doesn’t look like gain of function but overall resistance. Surviving doesn’t make you more of a carrier but, yes, you still might be walking around if undiagnosed.

I think the countries that are able to weaponize a virus are few, and it would be very hard without being obvious. Infecting a population isn’t that hard, so no point in developing immune super carriers. Better to use propaganda to tell people to ignore their experts. Then you have the big problem; you can’t be sure how effective an attack is and if it is, that it won’t come back and bite you. And of course, the rest of the world would be very pissed.

Viruses are not good weapons and they would do more to make your enemy have the resolve to go to war than anything else.

Haha. Yeah fucking right.Tesla Investor day is next week and they will be discussing the new platform. Tesla has over 100k employees making things happen and have been averaging 50% growth almost every year. They don't let up on that front and robotaxis, the new compact car and robots will all be in full swing this decade.

The following submission statement was provided by /u/WalkingTalker:

The report says the industry just needs to pay 3% of its income to reduce methane leaks by 75% and that the yearly methane leaks are equivalent to Russia's entire methane production. Since methane is 80x more potent greenhouse gas than CO2 it's a very cheap climate solution.

I doubt they'll ever make a high volume low cost compact vehicle. There's no money in it which is why so many companies have left that segment. Tesla is never going to anything but a niche player that a lot of people lost a lot of money betting on. When it all comes crashing down it will end up being a Chinese brand.

Somewhere there are records of every text message that someone sends and receives. It seems like it would be fairly trivial in the near future to use that to model an AI version of a person that you could continue to text with even after they are dead. The experience would be the same even though you would know that the AI wasn't real.

I am going to assume you are talking about really good AI and not the actual person's consciousness:

I mean, I think it might have some implications of stunting the grieving process for some. It might be unhealthy for some. It might also be good for others. It's hard to say really.

I know there are people I wish I could see again and talk to and hear them laugh. Maybe on their birthday or on a holiday, sit down with some whiskey and pour your heart out. Cry and grieve.

I could also see some Miss Havisham types who would interact every day and lose some sense of reality and get kind of fucked up with it.

Actual consciousness? There would be a lot of issues around legality and personhood. Can a person exist like that and not go insane? That's a tough one.

Obviously. This is so obvious. You know how many simple things a human does? Try the workplace. There are so many things that can be replaced. There are countless stories of people getting 15 minutes of work done, while getting paid to watch tiktok. Could you imagine how many people are doing this? Automation just helps

I don't care at all since I am not important to have anything bout me preserved.

But I can see models trained to mimic philosophers and poets and such. Even if it is just manufactured, it would be interesting to hear what could Descartes thinks of the current model of the universe, how Shakespeare would direct a contemporary movie (or even a sci fi one!), how Socrates would view modern issues, and so on.

Heck, even something more recent. I miss Hitchens rebuttals and speeches. Imagine what and how he would talk about current affairs today.
