Whatever you’re worried about, just change the channel. You’re listening to the wrong propaganda. America will be just fine.

If being poor in the US is hell, you haven't seen a hard life. Maybe in your mind a few countries take care of the poor, but the fact is the vast majority of the world being poor means you are being sold into slavery, being raped, abused and/or murdered and nobody bats an eye.

Depends who you are.
Private public partnerships and ESG will be a big part of the destruction of freedom. The national security apparatus will also grow and target people more.

theyre not evil, theyre just victims. They cant offer any resistance to corporate overlords. Nothing personal so check your feelings at the door.

One could argue the fact that emotion has a physical reaction associated with it, therefore, it would not be emotion it is experiencing just the "thoughts" that are associated with emotion

Reddit hates EVERYTHING, don't worry and just live your life. Go to any mountain biking, gaming or car subreddit and see for yourself.

We would need to understand what experiencing things is before we could even begin to meaningfully answer that. I would say that until we fully understand what consciousness even is we should assume anything that seems conscious should be treated as if it is.

I think (feel) therefore I am. If you everything is experienced in the mind so if the AI thinks it’s having feelings it is. Isn’t this exactly how humans experience and react to emotions anyway?

>“It’s like black magic,” said Yen Chin Ong, a theoretical physicist at Yangzhou University in China who has a background in mathematics. “Mathematicians are not comfortable working with things where it’s not clear what’s going on.”
Physicists are said to have really developed their own mathematics.

As far as I understand it: it is not really about a new hypothesis, but only about interpretation.

Ah, yes, blame it on those evil evil conservatives. While the companies that are developing this tech are throwing their funding at the "other" side. "Here, be distracted by shiney thing, don't look at us taking away your future, shiney thing over here is where you need to look to!"
That said, you're not wrong about this being a digital revolution akin to the industrial one. ChatGPT and similar systems will wipe out entire sections of the services sector. Call centers especially. When paired with VR they also have a chance to wipe out large sections of the entertainment industry, both gaming and movie wise. What it won't wipe out however are blue collar jobs, since chatbots do not have an option to manipulate the environment.

Reply to Third person cured of HIV after stem cell transplant, researchers say by esprit-de-lescalier
Can a person “recatch” it again? Or do they develop immunity? Since almost all cases are lifestyle related, this method of “curing” it seems like only a temporary, and very painful and intrusive, solution, versus developing a vaccine against it.

They could be emergent elements like other aspects of AI. Your comment suggests they would be programmed in…or out.

Emotions are just a chemical reaction we evolved to keep us alive, ei warn us of danger, create a bond to stick together, make us leave the cave to look for food not to starve.
They would be absolutely useless for a robot.

The following submission statement was provided by /u/landlord2213:
The team utilized a technique that they believe could speed up the drug discovery process in the production of lissodendoric acid A.
Organic chemists at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) have synthesized the first artificial form of a molecule found in a sea sponge, which holds potential therapeutic benefits for Parkinson’s disease and similar disorders. The molecule, named lissodendoric acid A, has the ability to counteract molecules that can harm DNA, RNA, proteins, and even destroy whole cells.
In a surprising turn, the research team utilized an unusual, long-neglected compound called a cyclic allene to control a critical stage in the chemical reactions required to create a usable form of the molecule in the laboratory. This breakthrough, according to the team, has the potential to be beneficial in the development of other complicated molecules for pharmaceutical studies.
