"Truth is: if not for covid, Trump would have been reelected in a landslide. So we evaded Armageddon for good old store brand oppression.
But if a leader more savvy..
And less sociopathic..
With true fascist aspirations come along its gon tragic.
74 million proved if the right rhetoric is used we could end up on the wrong side of Workd War II 2."

Why would we go back to 80 hours? That was during the industrial era. I think my optimism is more based on reality than your negativism. Im also not from the USA, but I dont think that really matters.

That's the sort of thing that ends in 'oops, we didn't realise 30% of one of our sub-populations shares the same genetic markers as our targets, because humans are sluts that have been travelling and fucking around for millennia'

>have every citizen work 10 years longer.
the system is set up to respond to the reality of the situation: which is the coming demographic winter. it doesn't matter how much "money" there is; it matters how many able bodied citizens there are in proportion to the elderly and disabled and unable to work. that we'll have to work until the day we die is more a question of demographics than political systems.

As an aside, part of our culture is to worry about our own demise; and as the ascendant culture, the USA is currently exporting that part of its culture.

Is it possible Starlink could become the No.1 Global ISP? Or is there a fundamental disadvantage to using satellite internet Vs fiber/wire that makes Starlink a got-to only when there isn't an alternative?

Reply to Would the most sentient ai ever actually experience emotion or does it just think it is? Is the thinking strong enough to effectively be emotion? by wonderingandthinking
If it’s sentient it has emotions and will react like a human would. It would still be affected by its environment.
Sentience means the capacity to feel emotions. Ai would have to experience plain and pleasure like us.
Some humans are very apathetic and are numb to most feelings, would an AI that can experience emotions be more sentient than a human who’s apathetic? I’d assume so, they would act more like us if we interacted with it compared to say a psychopath who feels very limited emotions.

Reply to comment by Zaflis in How Our Reality May Be a Sum of All Possible Realities | Quanta Magazine by esprit-de-lescalier
You're thinking of parallel universes. The idea here is that our perceived universe is a superposition of many possibilities. As if you have many translucent pictures of the same thing, but with very tiny variations. Put them all together on top of each other and you and up with a picture of the most common features. That is the perceived reality.

I don’t think this is viable - although there is a genetic component and heritability behind conditions, a lot of them are impacted by epigenetics and the interaction between the broader environment and early childhood or maternal health e.g trauma.

You are so, so silly for having such wild hopes and dreams. The politicians we vote for won’t even give us healthcare, or keep our railways safe and operational, or give us fair districts to vote in, or even raise wages to keep pace with inflation. And even if the US get UBI, do you really think that every government on earth is going to do the same? They are seeking to make the lowest paid jobs in the lowest paid countries redundant - outsourced Art for games for example. You think that all gets done in the US?
They’re not going to make our work weeks shorter, they’re going to lay off so many people that we all have to work 80 hours a week to keep up. Please stop lying to yourself.

I'm not sure if this is all a joke or if you're genuinely going through something serious with your mental health.
You seem to be making senseless connections between things that cause you anxiety in a somewhat grandiose manner, which may mean you are experiencing psychosis. I've been there, it's tough but you gotta understand what's going on if you wanna get help.
Maybe step away from reddit for a while and talk to someone you trust about your experiences. And do your best not to be offended if they suggest taking you to get medical help. Your thoughts do have real value, you're not "just crazy," but you do not seem to be organizing these thoughts well at all right now. Maybe set these ideas aside for now and come back to them when you have more control over them.
I know what it feels like to belive that AI is out to get you. It's really scary, but you're gonna be okay. A computer can't hurt you right now.
Wishing you the best, OP.

Yeah, I'm actually pretty excited about AI art, and I think that the fear over it speaks more about our current economic system than it does about the tech itself.

US is heaven if you are a high-income earner. It is hell if you are poor or bottom earner.
So your income decides whether usa is great or not.
