Context: I’ve seen many ultrawide angle photos of the Hoh Rainforest and wanted to experiment with a different perspective. I don’t own a true telephoto, so I ended up using my standard zoom at 105mm. I tried multiple angles, but I will say composition at Hoh is very difficult. Despite what social media posts, the forest is populated with evergreens and is not as bog-like as what you see online. The gnarly leaves and branches make the photo look distracting and it is hard to frame. I used two tree barks to frame this photo, but if you’d like to see my ultrawide angle photo, it is on my Instagram. I usually like to have a clear subject in my photos, but with this much going on, it’s probably best to call this abstract landscape photography. Not quite, the leaves are hard to describe. They are like a long pointy really narrow green dagger. They grow pretty much directly out of the branches.

Looks like a landscape Hollywood would use for an alien planet.

Yeah I wanted to hike out but it was so windy and cold my lady wasn’t up to it. Wanted to shoot at night too. This isn’t the one you can see from the road though but I know the one you’re in about. This one is around the mountain adjacent to the one on the road.
