Special as in wide angle and still rectilinear. On a camera that isn't standard at all especially with good glass. Phones have definitely come a long way though.

I have seen these tufa tower way out of the water when you can walk around them. This summer the lake will probably be very high and the Tufa will be out "there". I never took any Tufa from Mono Lake for my rock gardens. You can find Calcium deposits out at Pyramid Lake Nevada. A less salty lake, It has huge fish. It is out on an Native American area and is north of Reno NV on the East slope of the Sierra.

This and the Dingle Peninsula, we’re some of my favorite places to explore when I went to Ireland.

Really wish Tufa wasn’t so rare. I learned all to late how nice it is to use for terrariums, aquariums and decorative plantings/mountings. Moss also grows SOOO well on it. Alas mono lake is the only Place I know of where it can be found these days and you can’t collect it anymore. Artificial tufa sucks in comparison

Mono Lake is a salty lake (no natural outlet river) that is located on Rt 395, at the end of the hwy 120 out of Yosemite National Park in the East Slope of the Sierra Nevada. It has a great number of "salt flies" and very small shrimp (sea monkeys) It is a place where Pacific sea gull go to breed on the volcanic islands that in wet years are islands. The area is very scenic with volcanic cones, tufa towers (spring fed calcium deposits) It is at Lee Vining California. Due East from Yosemite in Central California.

Been there. The whole Wicklow Mountains area is amazingly beautiful. Wild heather, gorgeous lakes, winding roads…. Damn I need to go back.

Gorgeous shot but pics never do it full justice. I didn't realize how massive that canyon is until I saw it in person and I was blown away.

I’ve been thru here during an amazing winter fiery sunset reflecting off the lake while these outcroppings were completely black. Was super cool.
