Yeah that hike is brutal in the summer because of how exposed it is. I was just there two weeks ago and it's really nice now. The hills are still green and wildflowers are starting to pop up.

Still haven’t done that hike
I guess I only think about it in the summer and then it’s hot AF out there

Great picture! I’m so jealous. I was in Hofn a week ago and one of the days it was supposed to be a very strong aurora (kp7) with huge solar storms. We missed it completely because it was so cloudy

Great description. One of my favorite days/hikes.
I’d only add the sense of smell. The freshness of the ocean and pines along with the pungent smell of animals living life.
Total immersion of the senses. Bathing in nature

The picture doesn't capture just how dynamic and loud the area is.
The waves crash and retreat with a constant roar. The birds argue over each other loudly. The wind and reflections keep constant motion. The seals and birds hunt fish.
On first seeing it I felt like I was watching a once in a lifetime event, but as interesting things keep happening I realize it's just the nature of the place. It teems with life.

Home! I was told timpanogos means sleeping lady. If you see the whole mnt looking at it facing east looks like a lady sleeping.

Pinnacles does not get enough credit. The High Peaks loop is awesome.

I'm scouring the scene to find a good trout spot and wish I was there. Keeping my eye out for any mushrooms. We have a creek nearby here in Michigan that feels quite similar to this area. Such immersive scenery!

My in-laws are currently on a flight back to the US from Iceland. No northern lights all week.
Other friends went three weeks ago, no northern lights.
When I went 6-7 years ago, it was the best show in 30 years. Got so lucky. First week of October, 2016. They shut down the city lights in Reykjavic one night just so everyone could watch.

Wow — and it’s not an easy hike up there for fat old farts like me. I visited about 20 years ago and it was busy but not let’s have permits busy. One of the linked articles said 137k visitors which blows my dang mind

It was cloud coverage that prevented us each time, what made it more annoying was that each time they were supposedly at their brightest in the preceding days!
