Depends more on who I'm with and what I want to do than anything else.

If you have multiple families - housekeeping all the way. Otherwise the back of North pines is great for camping. If that's not your vibe the lodge is probably the best.

Just finished watching 14 peaks and the JRE episode, parallelly. It was amazing but they should make a series, 14 ascents is a lot for a single movie. Nims is a cool dude.

Think i saw Meru around the time Free Solo came out. Might give it a second go.

I was there that day.

Best part for me was how empty the park was during the day. They were limiting access due to the pandemic, so went early and spent the whole day. Lots of folks who did have tickets were just coming for the firefall, so at times we had bits of the park to ourselves.

At one point I walked in a bit to get a better photo of Yosemite Falls and when I got back over by that little stone bench where John Muir's cabin was there was nobody there at all. Like, I couldn't see anyone, I couldn't hear anyone. That part of the valley that never happens, at least not during the day.

So for five minutes I sat on the bench and felt like I was in the morning of creation. I'll never forget it.

Even with reservations it might take a while to get in. I was at Yosemite right after Christmas for a few days and when I was leaving at 1pm on a Wednesday there was a massive line of cars about 10 miles long trying to get into the park through the south entrance. There was no way even half of them were going to get in before dark. It was the one nice sunny day between storms and the main entrance to the valley had been closed by a rock slide.

Family and I got bad info from the park Ranger telling us to walk instead of ride the bus, my wife took his suggestion, we saw the bus pass us 1 minute later and we didn't get to it's stop for 15 minutes.

We had to run, we got there just as the clouds parted. My wife was tired, and she walked. We got about five minutes of viewing with the kids (I ran with the stroller, pushing our youngest who was 2 at the time.)

My wife missed seeing it by 5 seconds...
