How many people were converged around you? I’d love to photograph sites like these, but it’s become like a gathering place for masses of photographers, and it kind of loses that magic.

Western North America has them in a few areas, usually in arid or semi-arid locations. They are formed by the wind and water erosion of sedimentary rock.

You can see very similar structures in the upper Midwest. The only difference is that it’s only only next to roads in spring, and instead of rock it’s pillars of ice with dead animals on top.
