Yeah, it was a great night. Basically I also have the same shot with a totally different type of aurora, maybe I’ll post it some day. Not so much swirls but way more „straight lines“ with lots of colors.

Basically all year but is only gets dark enough from late august till April. The more „night“ the longer the chances. To see the green lady. Also I prefer to go there during a new-moon phase :-)

Is the winter the best time to see them? I assume so with like 20 hours of darkness but everything else there must be pretty inhospitable this time of year

I recently went to see them. Awesome. But honestly, the pictures are often times better because the exposure times can be tweaked and are more sensitive than the human eye. Don't get me wrong, the lights are beautiful, but I was also shocked how even my cell phone picked up the lights more dramatically than my eyes.
