Yes, not underrated at all. Soooo many people. I was there around Thanksgiving and it was jam packed. Meanwhile Mesa Verde and Chaco Canyon were absolutely empty. Even the Grand Canyon had far fewer people. Zion is beautiful, but its main road is a bottleneck in both directions.

Pictures or it's not true

One of the most memorable days of my life was seeing that there was a solar eclipse in the newspaper that was going to cross the grand canyon, dropping everything I had that day and blasting up I-17 to go see the eclipse.

Even though it was only an annular eclipse rather than a total eclipse, just being at the grand canyon with all of these people experiencing the nature of the canyon and the eclipse happening, where everyone is there together to experience the eclipse was absolutely mystical.

Definitely one of the greatest days of my life.

I agree with you, the scene here is like Earth Shift or the end of the world.

I was lucky and went to all the great parks in the late 90's before everything was so popular. We went to Toroweep, and were the only people there. I think there were less than 5 cars at Zion. We did Angel's Landing and were the only people on the trail in late April. Bryce Canyon too, one camper ahead of us, and no one else. I'm glad I got to see all these places before they got crowded, because I wouldn't go now.

Yeah, the stone forest here is like a maze, it is worth everyone’s experience.

I have a lot respect for anyone who can capture this level of photo from there. I have been twice and both times chickened out with the expensive camera/tripod.

You can see the orange breast well enough, though muted. Looking on eBird though, it does look like the vast majority of reports in the area are Western, so you could lean that way!

I don't have any close up shots of the bird but I remember it had a blue coat. I don't recall seeing orange colour on any of its body parts.

I didn't even know I had captured the bird until I bumped up the shadows while editing the picture haha!!

If you have any other shots where you can see the throat color better that would cinch it. Blue throat = Western, orange throat = Eastern!

Having worked for the nps there, I would say it's super overrated. It's in the top 5 of most visited, super overcrowded, and there are much cooler parks out there. It's still incredible, but it's definitely a known thing.

Must have been quite the drive this time of year.
