This reminds me of a place I visited in 1968, when I lived with a Japanese family for a month in Kyoto. I saw a colorful snake down by the river.

My wife's hometown is only about 20-30 min south of here - It is a beautiful area, and if we could find work we would settle down here; Housing is cheap! Also, they were basically able to avoid all the crazy terrible weather the last couple weeks.

Glad to see I wasn't the only one confused by that. I have never been to Boston, let alone ten miles west of it but I'm pretty sure it doesn't look like that.

Unfortunately, there is a huge dam construction project upstream from Omachi (there already is an old dam, but they're building like an extension.)

The construction leads to unusually high mineral deposits, and this water is far from pure.
