I did something that was cost-effective, but only partially worked. Bought two-inch wide black ribbon and draped it over the curtain rod holders and down the sides - then I pulled it tight and clamped it so it wouldn’t move at the top. I weighted the ribbon at the bottom sides. It kept out more of the light, but wasn’t perfect.

  • It is not question about a specific aspect of a project you are working on.
  • You are asking for aesthetic advice (e.g. what colour drapes would look nice with your couch).
  • You are asking if anyone else has ever built something or used a method.
  • You are asking if a project is "easy".
  • If you have a project in mind, please do some basic research on the matter, come up with your plan, then you can ask a question about a specific aspect of that project.

I would suggest you cut out the wallboard and put 2x4’s between the studs where the mount holes are and secure the studs. Then patch the drywall and get some 3” screws and secure the mount to the 2x4’s. There is no drywall molly, toggle, etc that will stand up to time.

The plugs (anchors) that come with TV mounts are only to be used in masonry. You need to mount it into the studs for a drywall application. Lucky you messed it up the first time, because it probably would not have held.

You could possibly put some wood there. Like attach few pieces of wooden board (or one bigger one) there -> bolt it to wall -> bolt tv mount on top of that.

Or instead of wooden board, use metal (like this). Mount it to wall from corners, so one hole in the middle will match current hole. Metal plate should help secure the current holes.

But really, I would maybe leave this to professional to prevent more fuck ups. Or just move it 10 cm higher and use mount with movable arm, so you could put the tv lower.

Edit: Or just use bigger screws.

You hammered the bolts? I’m no expert but I’m pretty sure bolts are never meant to be hammered. Only nails get hammered. You probably broke the anchors, or plugs as you called them. I could be wrong though.

Use push pins to attach to the wall instead of a rod. You have to get ties to pull the curtains open if you want them to stay open, but works like a charm.

The curtains need to be 2x the width of the window, so that it creates drape (example if your window is 3 feet wide, get two panels that are 3 feet each). Hang the curtain rod high and wide enough that it covers several inches of wall in each direction, not just the window. Also, darker colored curtains will block more light.
