It’s the ceiling titty!

The only issue is that the new one is going to be dimmer (unless you've got two really low wattage bulbs in the current fixture.) You might not notice it though.

That's standard issue suburban home decor for the last 30 years.

A better way to think about it — your entire house is a series of things connected, in parallel, to 120v

well i'm out of ideas. i would imagine it's just a big resistive heating element inside which is about as basic as it gets. altho now i say that, i don't understand how your 240 volt system works with no neutral line. (oh i think i get it, the 2 live wires are out of phase creating a bigger potential... nice!)

Update! So I tried another wall heater spot in my home and it seems it's working so it might be the wiring in that spot specifically? Not sure why though

For some reason the house has a white wire for the other 120V instead of red or another black (it's an older house 1980s era with 3 wires and not 4

hmm that same manual says
supply side black -> envi black
supply side red or 2nd black -> envi white
supply side green/copper -> envi green
supply side white -> not used, cap off this wire.
which sounds different to how you have done it.

My suspicion is that the silicone will shrink a tiny bit as it dries and pull away from the tile. It might depend on the type of silicone used. I'd keep a very close eye on it, you might have to rip it out and do it over.
I did see a neat trick recently: the guy duct taped a spoon to the tube of silicone, so the spoon trailed the nozzle. So as he went along and squeezed the silicone out, the spoon was taped in a position such that it was following along and removing any unnecessary silicone, leaving behind a clean line of sealant.

Yeah I have it mounted and I can hear the switch click so that's likely not the issue

well i googled it and the first thing the manual says in big red letters is "this thing won't work unless it is mounted to a wall"
https://www.eheat.com/content/Envi-Owners-Manual.pdf
so that's my guess with no futher information.

outdoor curtains? wild!
what shape are you after? any old drinks container could make a nice form. if you need a flat bottom you can turn it upside down while it sets.
also you could drive a steak in to the ground like a beefy oversize tent peg

Reply to /r/DIY - what fasteners would you stock for small woodworking and home improvement projects by Forumferret
What I've started to do is when I need a couple of a certain size, I buy the box of them.
Also, get construction screws for general projects, not drywall screws. Star tips are best.

Drywall screws are actually very brittle. I'd recommend against using them for generic purposes.

I don't think that manual is for the same system. The layout on the receiver is different, OP didn't mention DVD-playing, and the ports on the speakers in OP's photo really don't look like those spring-loaded bare wire connectors.
It is a distinct possibility that they're some sort of goofy proprietary Bose nonsense.

well i think the only "propper" way to do it is rip it out and start again... fun :)
i made the mistake of not using a quality silicone when i did it so i have to do it again soon too. heh. things get easier the second and third time round so i guess that's a small silver lining

Just take one of the bulbs out. Problem solved.
