I found it! The total tax on TurboTax is 5535. The total on freetaxusa is 2767. Big discrepancy. I've always used TT and always owed a lot so I didn't expect to run into something like this

Can you print out a “paper” return to PDF from that version of TT?

Doesn’t make much to me. It’s there for enforcement, not safety or anything else. If it were a safety thing I’d agree.

Freetaxusa offers a line by line summary where I can see the breakdown. TurboTax doesn't offer that unless I pay $59. Feels a little sketchy

Can you compare the two, line by line? There must be a difference.

I’d go with the free tax!?

Most people don't choose to get sick or injured.

I'm sure many people would add many other caveats on this amount to help justify their lifestyle and choices as well.

It is out of date. Lists rent less than $1000 for single person. That is virtually nonexistent
I guess they use HUD fair market rent calculations.

A big caveat here really should be "1 healthy adult".

You have it backwards, they won’t ticket you for the plate but they will use it as justification to pull you over in the first place and try to find some other reason once you’re stopped (mainly to check for drinking or drugs)
I used to work for a local PD and that’s what they did all the time to justify pulling over someone who “looks suspicious”

I used this when I moved to Connecticut in 2018. I found it to be spot on for those categories at least for me. I don’t know if it has been updated lately, as things are more expensive now.
Of course, it works if you understand that this only includes those categories that are necessary just to survive.
You won’t be comfortable and you won’t have disposable income if you only earn that, but you’ll “survive”.
tom_echo t1_jctxyk3 wrote
Im actually surprised how low that is. Are they accounting for savings?

Am I reading this right where it says 1 adult can get by on about $37k "living wage"?
That's a far cry from what I see people here demanding almost daily
