Ahhhh yes, our governor and his wife embezzled $700 million of COVID relief funds and our state now has a $1 billion+ surplus because he “got lucky”… got it.

I've lived in a couple different areas of NM. One being Albuquerque. I enjoyed Albuquerque but they do have some problems. The other being the "shit hole" the other poster was referencing. The majority of the locals didn't have past a 6th grade education and that 6th grade level was not comparable to CT or any northeastern state. A friend was a teacher in that particular town. Her 3rd graders were reading at a 1st grade NM education level. She had also taught 1st graders and would get kids who didn't even known letter sounds. I'm not talking a few kids. I'm talking full on entire classes of kids not able to make letter sounds because this was their first experience with school. At the time they had no kindergarten and no pre school. The lack of funding was astounding. People complain about lack of funding for schools in New England, they have never seen what happens when a state can't fund their schools. The majority of NM is a beautiful state, along with the other states on that list, but they have systemic issues. One may not care if they don't have kids but you should care. An educated society helps all. Those kids will grow up and have to work. Do you really want poorly educated people running the local government or working as aids in elderly homes.

But the second we raise taxes on the poorest people in this state….
Well, you know how that goes. Complete double standard in this sub.

Spot on. We’re obv here because we’re connecticuties, but it’s crazy how blindly attached some are to our state.

Yeah, it’s call federal Covid relief money.
Lamont hasn’t done anything meaningful to fix the state’s finances; just got lucky.

The comment I replied to mentioned Portland Oregon.

Lol who mentioned Fox News? Walmart is literally closing all its Portland area stores because of crime I wouldn’t say Oregon is fine in the “Portland area”.

I moved to CT from VT. My life is better in every way in CT. My families salary nearly doubled, I actually live on a much more quiet and peaceful area (lived on rt 4 in VT and now live in the quiet corner) and my cost of living is basically the same (got kinda lucky buying my house at a low point in housing prices). And, I'm only 2 hours from VT and can visit as often as I like. There is a saying in VT, "you can't get there from here" and it is for real. People complain about traffic and driving in CT, but I had to travel 45 min just to get to the nearest decent grocery store. Obviously your milage will vary, but for me I'm much happier in CT.

Having lived in the South, education in CT and New England in general is light years ahead of Tx, FL, LA and nearly every southern state where ‘taxes are lower’, roads are generally much better and it goes on….

…generally those that do not seek to understand where the data is coming from, what it actually says, and what that might mean!

Both the heading of this post and the title of the graph are potentially misleading.
Unfortunately people will read this is as "Connecticut has the #1 highest tax burden overall in the United States." It's not clear that this graph is showing that. Taxes come from a variety of sources and it may be measuring the amount from those sources.
Also, I can't easily locate the USA Facts source. And the image does not give us any detail about what it is exactly trying to measure.
Connecticut may actually have a very high tax rate overall, but we don't know because this chart isn't giving that answer.

I KNOW you did not claim Lamont and his wife have made $700 million off of state contracts? Like, surely you couldn’t believe that? 😂😭

That's why his wife made 700M since covid "doing something right"? Wouldn't be because she used her husband's power to get a state contract now would it?

I mean I love it here but I’ve lived in all sorts of states and loved them all. Great parts to every state. I raised my kids here, and I’ve been spending more and more time at my other houses. Not sure how much longer I’ll keep my ct house

This graph shows how much each state relies on taxes for the budget, this does not necessarily translate directly to tax rate per capita….your title seems to be deliberately misleading by not giving the entire context.
I believe we are still behind California and Vermont in terms of tax burden per capita.

Every nation, state, province, and local municipality on earth is dependent on taxes… how are u just now learning this?

Highest in taxes but what do we get from it? Education isn't the highest, our roads suffer in most places, what do we really gain from having these high of taxes?

The chart does have a grain of truth. CT has all kinds of BS fees and taxes. We have a business entity tax, occupational tax, high filing fees, etc. This is a result of the fact that suggesting any increase in the income tax is political suicide. The $$$ has to come from somewhere.

Now that we know Connecticut is dependent on taxes, does anyone know which areas and what percentage the tax money is used in Connecticut?
For example how much goes to state parks, the inland and coastal waterways, infrastructure etc…. What are the percentages. I can’t find any sources for this online….

Yup, that's how far up the list I had to go to find one that wouldn't suck. It's number 22.
edit: for clarity, there are 21 below it.

I have a friend who moved out of Vermont for that very reason. There was only 3 ways they would get to their job and two were usually heavily trafficked due to construction and would take an hour to get to work. They also lived 20 minutes from the closest grocery store. If there was something going on with the road, they SOL.
