None of New England is "Real America" to most Americans so I wouldn't base my trip around that idea. It's small, affluent, white and much more liberal and similar to Europe than expected for its population density. Don't get me wrong, it's my favourite part of America by far (UK immigrant), but I wouldn't be 100% sure that it was the perfect short American break. The highlights here are the scenery, relatively slow living, quaint towns, high quality of life etc.

The best bits about America for someone coming for a short trip are usually the national parks and the huge cities (NYC metro area is like 2.5x bigger than London metro). Maybe the things you can't do back home for novelty like shooting a firearm.

So if food and nightlife are huge priorities and you can't rent a car, you should seriously consider going to NYC or Boston or similar. Good or even acceptable public transit is almost entirely absent here outside of the big cities.

Also, medium sized cities in America generally confer a huge culture shock on a European, they oftentimes have quite serious crime and homelessness compared to what you're used to. When combined with the car infrastructure, strip mall living and the fact that there are no cathedrals from the year 1100 this leads to pretty ugly cookie cutter cities IMHO. Most places bigger than 100k population and less than maybe 750k fall into this category for me.

If you can rent a car and are more interested in seeing the wee small quaint towns and the American quality of life, then buy the lonely planet guidebook and zip up the coast roads doing a classically American road trip, stopping into all the best bits. See some big mountains that we don't get back home, the lakes and forests, the wildlife is absolutely phenomenal etc.

Underpaying workers & lack of drivers is just not accurate, they make VERY good wages & they have PLENTY of employees/drivers on sunny days to pick up trash on the highway or stop a lane of traffic to fill 3 potholes. The state trucks are huge and actually do a great job plowing our highways, I think the problem (with my own neighborhood too) is that towns outsource 3rd party randoms that do a very poor job and just don’t have the man power.

I’ve never used straw for anything in a garden. It doesn’t seem to be a necessity.

If it’s a new spot for you, contact your local extension office - google should tell you what that is and send in some soil to be tested. You can the amend the soil as needed to set yourself up well to start.

You can start seeds but I think it’s just easier to wait and buy plants around Mother’s Day.
As someone else said, put a weed barrier down. Slice just enough to plant your plant. Space them properly. Give room to wal between them once they’re fully grown - rows about 4 ft apart should work.

Pay attention to watering needs.

You may need a fence around the garden if you have deer or rabbits or chipmunks or other things…

I took the day off to play with my kids in the snow. Built a big snow ramp for their monstertrucks and some snowmen for them to destroy. Ive lost a son so believe me when I say: Its worth it, you never know how many you will get.

If the apartment didn’t plow yet, what does the lease say regarding the timeline for plowing. We have a management company take care of ours and it says within x amount of time after the snow that it must be plowed for us

Oh I don't even mean that. I mean the more recent news that the Canadian government has been pushing doctors (especially the ones in their version of the VA) to basically tell people it's the only treatment option, because its cheaper to kill someone than it is to treat them.

We have contributed to the situation in Ukraine. We are the reason Putin and his oligarchs are in power in the first place! We have nearly a 1000 military bases around the world! We have a torture prison in Cuba! We are helping Saudi Arabia commit genocide in Yemen!

Forget about Putin for a second and look at what we're doing and have done for the 70 years.
