Yeah, as a CT resident unless you're ok with ubering everywhere, a car is a mild must. If you're visiting the US for the first time and you prefer walking I'd reccomend places like Boston or New York which have way more historical sights. Or California. Our coast is fine, but not the beach towns you see in movies or TV.

Please bare in mind, I'm not a professional tourist, I'm just a schmuck from the center of my state telling you what I know, there's definitely alot I don't know. I hope you and your partner enjoy your trip wherever you end up.

I would check out trailforks.com, and download the app. Within the app I would download the CT trail map so you can still navigate when you lose cell service.

Sunnybrook State Park has some nice hiking, as well as an RC airfield.

The mountain biking is incredible at Burr Pond- I know people who drive an hour to ride their (though it's not really beginner friendly). People hike there as well.

If you have access to a kayak or canoe Stillwater pond is a nice place to chill on the water.

So, there's my 3 favorite spots within 10 minutes.

Go a bit further, there are ski areas (Mohawk and Ski Sundown), lakes trails, etc.

Lots of nice scenery to the west - the Housatonic River wasn't industrialized like the Naugatuck.

And if you like more manicured trails or are walking with someone of unkown stanima, white memorial in Litchfield is a good spot with many different places to park. My wife and I are amazed at all the wildlife we see on the water.

DM me if you want to connect or have any questions.

People talk a lot of shit about Torrington; My wife and I call it the Jewel of the Northwest.

I was so excited to see real snowfall again that I sat outside for like 20 minutes last night watching it come down.

As much as I hate to say it, wars are never going to go away. And there will eventually be a WWIII. It's just a matter of time, so it's better to be prepared than not.

And future wars will most likely be fought 90% with naval/air force and drones as they can conduct operations with minimal loss of human life by not putting people on the front lines.

You say you have a disability. Do you not have a Handicap Permit? If so, you could ask the jurisdictional department to put more designated spots closer to your building.

I miss when Sound View in Old Lyme was good. 20+ years ago it was a great place for teens to go and be somewhat lawless (without damaging property) and the one state cop existed just made sure no one got murdered and to break up the periodic fight. Now you have to pay for parking in a lot of spots and god help you if you're a group of teenagers out after 7:00.

I mean, you just elaborated why it's nice. Small beaches bring small crowds and lower wave activity means less erosion of what beaches to exist. It also lends itself to salt marshes and tidal rivers, which are great for those who like to watch wildlife.

People settled on the shoreline in CT (and continue buying summer homes here) because they DON'T want the Jersey shore.
