I think this rule starts to break down a bit in 1) very high cost of living areas, and 2) people with high incomes. Spending 40% of your income on housing is not that big of a deal if you still have $10K+ after paying your housing costs. I'm not trying to be argumentative...Fairfield Co. is going to be a lot different than many other parts of the state.

I worked in a retail computer store in the early 90’s. The owners didn’t give a hoot about weather - state is open? We are open. The number of guys who would show up to buy random unnecessary items was huge. Never expensive or enough to justify staying open that day, but always a bunch of weirdos who decided that THAT was they day they needed to buy a spare $10 mouse or a CD Cleaner.

So I upgraded during the pandemic I sold my house for a ton of profit then put down 100k on a 395k house further north so my mortgage payment was exactly the same since interest and taxes were lower although my principal was now higher than the first house. I make 100k a year with at the time a stay at home mom and a kid now she works so it should be easier once we pay off some debts that incurred during the pandemic.

Seriously!! These comments are perplexing. Tailgating someone in bad conditions is unsafe no matter the car but especially if it’s a shitbox. These are the same jerks that will complain they couldn’t get their Dunkin’s because staff didn’t show up in a snow storm but then also complain about underpaid Dunkin staff not being able to afford new tires or better cars. They just want to whine. I have a snow capable car with good tires and I drive slow on bad roads because it’s safe. The tailgaters in their huge trucks do nothing but make me more nervous. It’s a lose lose for everyone.

My first little shit box was a bear in the snow I remember Halloween blizzard putting past stuck jacked up trucks. Any shit box will be fine in the snow w snow tires . When j see people sliding around in the snow I wonder why they didn’t prepare for something that happens every year
