Anything over 5k you pay both federal and state taxes. So if you win 50k the CT lottery will deduct roughly 30% and you end up with a check for 35k.

The CT Lottery is required by law to report and withhold federal income tax (currently 24%) on all gambling winnings valued at more than $5,000. (Under certain circumstances this tax rate may be 30%.) In addition, the Lottery is required to report to the IRS gambling winnings that are $600 or more, and at least 300 times the amount of the wager.

CT Lottery Federal Tax ID Number: 06-1457386

State Income Tax: 6.99% The CT Lottery is required by law to withhold Connecticut state income tax (currently 6.99%) on all gambling winnings that are either: 1) subject to federal withholding tax (i.e. proceeds more than $5,000); or 2) reportable for federal tax purposes (i.e. $600 or more and at least 300 times the amount of the wager.) Connecticut state income tax is required on all CT Lottery winnings regardless of state residency.

I'm sad to hear The Plum Tomato went downhill. The Groton Plum was a workplace favorite and never disappointed. That was well over 15 years ago, but still sad.

I'm in Windham County and went to tint master in New London last weekend for ceramic tints. It's a father and son shop, did great work. Took about 3 hours for all windows in an suv.

I’ve always used Z and I love it. So easy and car is warm (or cool) when you get back. Especially if you’re coming from the western part of the state is the best one.

Noack's in Meriden on East Main Street is a Bavarian meat shop. In addition to a fine selection of wursts and other smoked meats, they carry a pretty good selection of German groceries.

Case Mountain in Manchester has a lookout spot where you can watch the sun go down in winter when leaves aren’t blocking the last portion. It’s maybe a 10 minute walk to the summit spot from the main parking area.

Won’t be open for a few more months (warm weather only establishment) but David’s Place is one of my favorite places to eat in the state. Amazing burgers and all their seafood dishes are reasonably priced is fresh compared to typical takeout/diner type places.
